To back up the poster with the deoderant suggestion, roll-on or solid both work, but must contain anti-perspirant:

Ken Haller, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics at Saint Louis University advises... dab a bit of roll-on antiperspirant directly on the bug bite and the itching will stop. "The aluminum salts in the antiperspirant help the body to reabsorb the fluid in the bug bite. The swelling goes down and the itching goes away," he says. (Newswise)

Benedryl.

Also, taping a penny over the bite will also help (the copper reacts with the bite, neutralizing a lot of it. Also keeps you from scratching it.

I've always reacted to mosquitos. If one lands on my I get a nickle sized mark. if it actually bites, I get a palm sized mark.

I have that problem myself and have used several things that work. absorbine jr works best for me but it smells really bad so I can not use it if I am going out. I also like vinegar but it also has a strong smell. There is also a product called afterbite but you will have to check with the pharmacist to see if you can use it on a young child

I, as a child had the same responce, and I STILL DO. Never outgrew it. I use old fashion calamine lotion. Yes, it is ugly, but seems to stop the itching best for me. But my bites blister up, the same as your sons. It is so itchy, gross...ect. Hang in there mom

I don't have anything for the mosquito bites other than what has already been said.

Suggestion: Get rid of the mosquitos. I lived on the edge of a park where it seemed they had lots of breeding places for mosquitos. We couldn't even go outside after dark. I bought a 1/4 acre size bug wacker and placed it in our yard about head high away from the house. I went to the butcher shop and bought 1/2 pound of fresh beef liver. I asked the butcher to give me extra blood. (Ignore the "you're crazy lady" looks.) With the bug wacker disconnected, I attached the open container of beef liver and blood to the bottom of the bugwacker with rubber bands. I then plugged in the bug wacker. For the first two weeks, I would disconnect the bug wacker and remove the dead mosquitos with a hose (high pressure spray) and then at night, after the bug wacker was thoroughly dry, I'd plug it in again. I got two to three cups of dead mosquitos each day for the first three or 4 days. After that it tapered off.

By the end of two or three weeks we could use our outside pool with out mosquito repellent.

The good part is no more mosquitos. The bad part is your electricty bill will go up about $10 to $15 dollars for the month.

This is so effective that if the mosquito larve are the primary food source for any endangered species, don't use it.

Why does this work? Female mosquitos need blood to complete their reproductive cycle. Beef works better than pork or chicken.

Good luck to you and yours.

Yikes. Are you sure it's a mosquito? I would at least call the doctor's office nurse line and get some advice. I have heard of kids having adverse reactions to bites, and mosquito bites on me get really huge (like quarter size) and itchy, but not blistering. I'm sure if you put any sort of anti itch cream like calamine or hydrocortozone it should be fine.

I also had severe reaction to mosquito bites as a child, and I still do! I noticed over the years that the degree of reaction also depends on the type of mosquito, sometimes the bites do not bother me much.
The important thing is to not scratch the bites at all, and apply an anti-itch cream immediately before they get swollen. Cold water also helps.
I have used a lotion from my home country for years, and I checked the active ingredient. It is DIPHENHYDRAMINE (also the active ingredient of Benadryl®). It works great for me.

My daughter does the same thing. We put benadryl cream on it as soon as we notice it. It seems to help. The sooner you get it on the bite, the better.

It could be blistery because of the poisons trying to get out of his body. My son gets bad reactions to bites to, he got it from me. This will sound strange but about 30 years ago my mom was reading Ann Landers and she had a trick to relieve the itch. You put deoderant on the bite and the itch goes away almost instantly. I swear by it and don't put anything else on our bites.
