Babys 1St Birthday

I thought shopping for the first birthday was difficult. You could get her a sand box or swingset (with a baby swing.) These are things she'd enjoy now and would continue to enjoy for a long time after. Love the babyblanket idea from Seoulmom. What a sweet idea!

for my daughter i am making her a "baby" blanket for her 1st b-day out of all the really cute outfits she wore her first year, it's a great way to remember those times & she will be able to keep the blanket forever (if you do this i recommend not letting them sleep with it regularly, so they can keep it & pass it down to their kids, i have blankets i used too much that my g-ma made me & now they are ruined from too much washing).

For our Niece, we got her a charm bracelet and charm. It was something we could add to every year or for special events.

If your baby is a girl then a special piece of jewelry would be nice. What you could do and I wish that I had done is both write her a letter about the year. Do it every year and give it to her on a "special" birthday-like 16 or 18.

We got our baby her first pair of real earrings. They were pearls, so next year we are going to pick a diamond pair, then a different stone the next year. I like it because she wont out grow it, she can wear them as an adult. We only put them in her ears for special occasions, like pictures or a holiday party, so she wont lose them. Good Luck!

We gave our daughter a little rocking horse - it was plush and had a button in the ear to push and he wags his tail, whinnies, and nods his head up and down and makes a galloping sound. She LOVED it, and rode it endlessly for years. When she was 5 I bagged it and put it in storage and she cried. I gave my great niece a similar horse last year on her first birthday and she loves hers as well. I also gave my daughter a little gold bangle bracelet which she wore very often until she was over 3 - it is now in my jewelry box to remember and pass to her children some day. (it's in all of her baby pictures) Good luck and have fun!

Unless you have unlimited funds, I wouldn't bother going crazy. Yes, it's a first birthday and that's special but, really, she's never going to remember her 1st birthday and when she grows up she's not going to be upset with you about not having gotten her something super special for her 1st birthday. Sharing the special day with family is the best thing to do...

Maybe a toy that she will use for many years or that she can give to her kids. For my daughter's first birthday we got her a ride-on elephant that is beautiful and has a wooden rocker...adorable! I will definitely be keeping it for her kids! I got a super awesome deal on it, which is the main reason we did it, but you don't have to do anything fancy. On her first b-day she also loved push toys and ride-on toys, so maybe if you're in the mood to splurge, go for a Cozy Coupe or large outdoor play house that will get lots of use over the years!
