My husband is the godfather to his cousins daughter. He wanted to buy something special for her christening. But, we found out that the godmother already bought a cross/chain & the outfit. Any other ideas? We were thinking another piece of jewelry (I dont think her ears are pierced).
Perhaps a charm bracelet. You can give the bracelet and 1 charm to commerate her christening. Each year you can buy her another charm on her birthday or for a special occasion. Maybe "baby booties" when begins to walk, religious medal for holy communion etc...

I just had my twins 1st birthday party and we got a really great gift from their aunt. She bought a photo package from Sears for them. It might be nice to buy her the "milestone" package so she can have her photos done every 3,6,9 and 12 months. It's a nice keepsake for everyone.

I agree that another piece of jewelry would be the way to go. I would recommend either little diamond studs or an ID bracelet.

How about setting up a fund with a few hundred dollars in it for college? He can contribute to it every year for birthdays, Christmas, whatever...A children's illustrated bible would also be nice. My daughter received a pearl necklace for her christening, one pearl at a time on special occasions ...

Hi Nicole,
Check out the website gifts.com....I use it ALL the time and you'll find it won't only be helpful with finding a christening gift but all other gifts you'll ever have to buy. The great thing is that it doesn't only give you on-line things...it gives you stores that you can find them in. And at the very least, will give you some good ideas. Good Luck!!

What the Godparents did for my daughter a week ago for her baptism was they got her an infant and an adult bible. (Both small)Both signed them and had the minister bless them both during the ceremony. Also you could get a nice cross to hang on her wall. You could sign the back. The godparents mother got her an angel to hang above her crib. That was also blessed. My father got her a beautiful diamond and garnet cross necklace (Garnet is her birthstone)that she can wear when she gets older to remember him by when he is gone. Hope that this helps. Congrats!

How about starting a charm bracelet for her which is something you can add onto with each occasion in her life as she grows up. A small charm, maybe a disc, have it engraved with her date of birth on one side and the date of her Christening on the other side.

There is some great Christian literature out there for kids. My son received a book called God and Me from his godfather and it is wonderful. A section to read every day that talks about basic principles in the Bible and life. There is a series by Sheila Walsh that my kids love. One of the books is called In Search of the Great White Tiger.

My daughter received a couple of very nice gifts for her Christening - one was a Baptismal certificate holder, which you can engrave (from her great-aunt) and the other was a sterling silver charm bracelet with the faith, love and hope charms on it (cross, anchor and heart) from her godmother). The godmother and I have both added to it over the past year and a half and it is filled. Now my daughter has a beautiful, meaningful bracelet to wear when she is a little bigger . . . and it is also a special keepsake for her to pass down.
Hope this helps! :)

The best christening gift my daughter received from her godfather was the start of a college fund account. He has promised that each year he will make a deposit for her birthday and christmas. She does not understand this right now, but in 18 years she will and be very thankful (so will her Dad and I)!!
Her great-aunt also started a custodial savings account with $20.00 and has promised to place $20.00 in it each month till she turns 18. This will also be used for school purposes - a car, text books, etc.
It is amazing how far these small gestures will add up!

Hi Nicole, Congrats to your husband. It is an awsome privelege to be a godfather and a responsibility too. For a girl a miraculous medal is a beautiful sign of our Blessed Mother's love and protection. They make nice small ones. Some day she may wear them both on the same chain as I do. Happy shopping, Grandma Mary

My daughter was given a charm bracelet. It a very sturdy link with a heart charm on it. The charm was engraved by her godparents. Although a charm bracelet might seem a little "old" for a baby, it is something that she will enjoy to wear when she gets a little older. The other good thing is you can always give charms as gifts for other special occasions you will be invited to share in. Another idea.. my other daughter recieved an "Add a Pearl necklace". It's a chain with one pearl on it. The idea is to keep adding pearls to it for all her special occasions. This way, by the time she's out of college, she will have an elegant, real pearl necklace to wear as an adult. Just a thought. Giving another necklace may be too close to what the other godparent is giving. Happy shopping!!

Nicole,
I always go with a Savings Bond - something for the future. Also, they make some really nice keepsake boxes that can be engraved. Someone had already suggested the silver scroll case for the baptism certificate that these boxes hold. They also hold the hair from the babies first hair cut, the first lost tooth and usually come with a nice comb and brush. I also liked receiving children's books on religion.

You should go to a Christian bookstore. They have LOTS of very cute things for little ones. You could buy her a kids Bible. That's a really good gift, really nice bed time story idea. My kids LOVE reading their kids Bible and it's great to instill that in them from a young age.

When my oldest daughter was born, I received a beautiful Christening keepsake box. It was a large box covered in satin and I use it to keep her Christening candle, photos, etc. in. Another nice idea is a sterling silver picture frame with the baby's name and Christening date engraved on it.

I think earings are a great gift. You could buy an outfit for after the christening. A few hours into the party I am sure they will have to change her cloths. Those outfits can be very unconfortable. I changed my daughter very soon after the Church and pictures into something just as nice for the remainder of the party.

A baby to bride bracelet is a great christening gift. My daughter received one for her baptism. I loved it so much that I bought one for a friend's baby. Here is the website: www.mysweetdreamsbaby.com/babytobridebracelets. The baby wears the bracelet for her christening and then it becomes an heirloom that she pins to her wedding dress. It comes with a personalized poem. There are alot of choices for beads, crosses etc..

Hi Nicole,
When my mother became Godmother to my cousin, she bought a silver shell that the priest used to baptize the baby. The shell was used to scoop the Holy water and pour over the baby's head. She purchased the shell at a local Catholic/religious shop, but they are also available online.
I thought that this was a very unique idea, and like the other items, the shell can be passed down as well.

When my daughters were christened we got all kinds of gifts(everything from clothes to money to religious items.) My older daughters God parents gave her a beautiful Bible. It has her name on it and they inscribed a special verse on the inside cover. It is something she will have her whole life.
You could also do jewlery. Something with the childs birthstone, or pearl. Since the shell is the symbol of baptisim. Hope this helps!
