At what age should I first take my child to the dentist? Any recommendations on a good pediatric dentist in Dallas?

What can I do next?

Well, just recently I've seen dental offices wanting a child to have their first preliminary visit around 18-24 months .. but I've NEVER done that and that seems waaay to early, IMO.

I think 3 is the 'standard' age ... but my one daughter didn't go until she turned 4 and that was a MUCH better experience than when I took my son at 3. :-)

My daughter went with me to my dentist for cleanings, etc and the Dr. would "look" in her mouth.

About age 2 I started taking my daughter to Dr. Tipton Asher, a fantastic and well known pediatric dentist in Plano located near Medical Center of Plano. He has a very good staff, sensitive to the child and parent. His partner is Beth Goldman and she is fantastic as well.

The address is 3713 W. 15th St, Plano, 75075 ###-###-####

He does NOT deal with insurance. You pay up front and file your own insurance. At first I was not crazy about this idea but I am always reimbursed almost in full (within $5 or so). We have only had routine cleanings, xrays and sealants done because my 13 yr old has a great mouth and luckily no issues.

Just saw the note from Leanne and she says he DOES file insurance. Things might have changed since we started going to him about 11 yrs ago. I like the way I have it with him and I will keep it that way. However, if he does deal with insurance and file it for you then more children will benefit from his great service!

Good luck if you go.

I just went to the dentist a few weeks ago and asked the same question. They said usually when they turn 3.

Age 2...my son did fine. Start young, so it won't be hard to go when they get older.

We started seeing Dr. Tipton Asher in Plano around 2 years old. He DOES file insurance.
