B.B.
Crackin' Oat Bran cereal. It was my favorite when I was a kid, and while it is sitll available, it tastes totally different than it did when I was a kid. Sad.
Having an irrational craving for those weird pink little ice-creams that they sold (and gave out as prizes for winning "shoot the duck" and "red light green light") at the old Gilroy Skating Arena. The sad thing is, they gutted the place years ago to turn it into some sort of store. My craving will never be satisfied! Do you have any tastes from your childhood that you can never have again? #IrrationallyDepressed <--- (hashtag, just because it seems to be the cool thing to do on sites other than twitter)

Not exactly.
I use to adore Captain Crunch cereal when I was growing up.
I hadn't had it in a long time and I tried it again a few years ago.
Now - it tastes horrible!
I don't think it changed - I think I did.
My taste buds don't taste things the same way the way they did when I was a kid.
Licorice (the black shoe lace kind) still tastes wonderful to me.
But there are things I use to hate when I was younger that are great now - Brussels sprouts, broccoli and artichokes are a few.
Jello Pudding Pops!! I wish they would start making those again. And Patricia are you talking about Marathon bars? Man I loved those things!
There is a candy bar I remember that was a braid of carmel covered in chocolate. I can't remember what it was called but I haven't seen it in years. I remember it being really tasty :)
OMG Andra, THANKS! I googled that and you're right! Aparantly they exist now as curly whirly bars.

A taste from my childhood that I never want to taste again is Hamburger Helper..........
Beer
No joking.
My dad used to let me sip off of his when I was little. I remember loving the taste as a kid.
When I grew up there was something about it. Now even the smell of it makes want to die...it is so gross.
I can not for the life of me figure out how any one could consume one let alone many....yuck!
Mine is Raspberry flavored 'New York Seltzer'...any one remember those?
Andra - I craved Jello Pudding Pops when I was pregnant - I sent my husband out and after three stores he found them for me! Either at Safeway or Fred Meyer (he can't remember now). Granted, I ate one and they just weren't as good as I remembered... :)
Capt Crunch has definitely changed for the worse!
Zotz candy
Flying saucer candy
Tab
Individual Swedish Fish out of the penny candy counter, counted out by the little old lady worker & put into a teeny brown bag.
I remember some kind of interesting granola bar we used to eat as kids, it was like a vanilla cream top with a light lemony/almond type flavor, then a very thin layer of chocolate and the granola bottom. It came wrapped in pairs I think in that silvery foil (like poptart foil). I WISH I could remember what it was!
Yes, but not from my childhood, necessarily.
About ten years ago, they made a "S'mores" candy bar. Can't remember which company made it...probably Hershey's, since I'm pretty sure my uncle who works at the Hershey's plant in VA gave me a box of them. Oh, they were SOOOO good...and they are sooo discontinued.
I also used to buy a steak and cheese frozen enchilada from the gas station near my house, and they don't carry them anymore. :(
But I'm pretty sure I've seen both Tab and RC cola lately...is it just a regional thing? I'm fairly certain they are still available.
Oh, one more. My grocery store quit carrying cheap bags of Haribo raspberries and if I want them, I have to now pay a ton for the more expensive ones that don't taste as good. So, no more.
Oh, another one. I better quit after this. I can't find Disney oranges anymore!!!
Banana moon pies. Where did they go?
They still make Jello Pudding Pops. I bought some a few years ago, and yes, they weren't as great as they used to be. :(
Boy, this all makes me sound like a junk food junkie!!
Mine is an ice cream cone too! There was a little ice cream shop in my town when I was really little, and they had smurf ice cream. It was a taste I can't describe, not blueberry, not blue raspberry, not cotton candy--but some delicious concoction consisting of a few of those flavors maybe. It was heaven!
for me...& this is gross....it would be my Grandmother's rabbit simmered in dark brown gravy. It was such a unique dish that I cannot find a recipe for it anywhere.
not a single one of us can make my Gma's fudge the way she made it. We have all tried....& it simply doesn't work. It's been about 5 years since she made it, & we're all still failing on it.
Taco Bell enchirito...is NOT the same as it was 30 years ago.
Nor is any of the fast food out there.
Vess soda.....RC cola....
fun question...thanks!
Hostess fruit pies, especially apple. They were a special treat in my lunch bag on school field trips so I didn't get them very often, but I loved them! My mom always packed the biggest, best lunch for field trips. Otherwise I was a "hot lunch" girl.
Helms donuts. The Helms bakery no longer exists and nobody else makes a big fat puffy glazed donut like Helms did. Those Krispy Kreme things are just a joke. Gosh I miss those Helms donuts!
nestles chocolate chips cookies the way my late grandmother made them.
I agree with Bridget B about Cracklin oat bran, though now that coconut oil is good for us again, maybe we can look forward to an original recipe!!!!!!
Oh those Marathon Bars! I forgot all about them. Also, from England are Lion Bars. So yummy. And a pint of Cider and Black . Oh, what memories. And a Wimpy veggie burger. And the best truffle pasta ever from a distant cousins restaurant in Villeta Barrea .
I was going to say Smurf ice cream too!
It had marshmallows in it! So yummy!!!
Plum jam my g-ma was either given by a friend or bought-I crave it all the time.
Nothing comes close to the flavor. What would I give for one biscuit smothered in that jam?!
I know there are others...but I'm drawing a blank.
The homemade pies my mom would make -- lemon meringue and blueberry. I have tried many times but they do not taste the same as my mom's.
My favorite was the lemon meringue.
The other S.
I stayed with a Great Aunt during summer vacations while my mom was at work. She made these great bbq sandwiches in a biscuit, I've tried to make something like hers, but can't quite recapture how delicious her tasted. Also, in college I worked at a restaurant that served a couple of dishes that I can never get right at home, maybe it was the styrofoam take home containers...haha!
The sausage made by an old Polish man for his store who refused to give the recipe to his children before he died
My grandmother's homemade bread-somewhere between bread and a sweet bun
The original recipe of: Corn Pops; Quisp; Captain Crunch; Milk Duds
My mother's soups
The dry rub ribs of the local rib restaurant
The paczki the little old ladies in my church's parish made for Fat Tuesday
Certain foods from Japan, including cherry blossom ice cream
The home cooking of my Chinese roommate
But, I have access to food I never had as a child, such as most international foods (though I go buy them)! Especially Indian food!
