Hi everyone,

We are looking at buying a new computer and we aren't sure whether or not to stick with Windows XP or buy a system with Vista. Has anyone out there used it and had an opinion one way or another?

Thanks!

M.

my old computer had XP and this one has Vista. They are exactly alike imo. I have never had a problem with Vista.

Vista is awful! Stick with XP! Vista is sluggish like you wouldn't believe.

Don't do it! I got a computer for work that has Vista on it and I hate it. The other computers every at work has with it are fine, but I have to restart the computer every couple of days or it gets bogged down and I can't open anything on it. I don't know what the problem is, but it's a pain. If you shut your computer down every night it might not be a problem, but I'm on the computer all the time and since I don't regularly shut down, it's causing me problems.

Don't go with vista. Microsoft is awful as is, but if you gotta go the microsoft route, go with XP. Have you considered buying a mac? They are a little more expensive, but in my opinion worth it! But again, whatever you do, do not get vista!

i don't really notice much of a dif. BUT do NOT even THINK of using a non vista compatable disc in a vista computer. it will actually reconfigure your computer some how that you actually ahve to change the code to fix it. NIGHTMARE

I'm not a huge fan of it - we have it on our laptop we purchased this year and it's difficult to find where they put stuff - not to mention the folders are constantly changing (for whatever reason). I have heard that Microsoft has received numerous complaints about Vista and are currently working on a new system to replace it. I have XP at work and Vista at home, so I do most of my stuff at work instead of home. There are just too many things to list why we don't like Vista (in comparison to XP), but I think the biggest is that it's not as user friendly (and I've been told that I'm very computer literate)...

Wow...I'm suprised. I love Vista - didn't really notice any negatives from XP and like the extras.

I went with the new Vista system and it was easy to use and I like it actually better. Some of the features are great, such as the ability to see all the windows you have open at once in a perspective-type window. There have been negative comments and I am sure all have some substance to them, but with perserverace Vista seems better. Issues with transferring files are there, so seek help from a "geek-squad" type of person to help you.

Agreed! I miss my Windows XP!! Vista just isn't working the same. I couldn't even transfer my Outlook files! If I had to do it again, I'd stick with the tried and true. Good luck, especially if you use your computer a lot and have things to transfer over from another one. THAT's where the issues come up. It looks prettier, but it is a pain!
