Lately I have noticed a lot of reviews on Amazon, Target, etc that the reviewer writes that they wrote an honest review in exchange for free products (baby gear, beauty products, etc..). Many of the reviewers are probably bloggers but there are so many! Anyone ever have luck getting free stuff for your review and if yes, how? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

Yes I get a lot of discount and free stuff to test. Look for review groups on facebook. A lot of people let the fact that they are receiving it free determine their rating so if you see a lot of 'I got this free' reviews be aware that it might not be as good of a quality as they make it seem.

Amazon changed their review policy so that a seller can't require you to write a good review. I write the review I'd write if I paid full price. The baby proofing thing that didn't baby proof and was actually a choking hazard? Bad review. The $8 leggings that lasted for a couple months before crapping out? Good review noting that there were $8 leggings and a good value for the price.

Nothing is "free". There's always a catch somewhere along the way.

It depends on who asks for the review. Like when I got my greenhouse they said if I write a review, good, bad or indifferent and sent them a screen cap of it I got a choice of accessories. Most legit places actually require you to purchase the product you are reviewing.

There are some that consider advertising and don't really care if you even know what you are reviewing. They just want their product to pop up as a five star product. Of course their money is green too but I couldn't make money deceiving people.

How do you know that your privacy and personal information are protected when you do all of these reviews? Certainly, you have to submit your name, address, and email address at minimum. Do you know what those companies do with this personal information? Do they sell it or share it with other entities? Many of the "free" offers that come up on the internet are only "free" when you submit your personal information.

You may get products in return for your reviews, but I believe there is likely a hidden cost that many people don't realize, and that cost could be the compromise of your personal information.

Even if you work with a company that promises not to share your information with any third parties, we constantly see government agencies, major corporations, and educational institutions being hacked all the time, so chances are, the more you put your personal information out there in a variety of different places, the more likely it is that some of it could end up in the wrong hands at some point in time.

There are criminal groups who spend every waking hour data mining, and others who are capable of incredibly sophisticated hacking. Identity theft is a very real risk whenever your personal information is compromised.

Personal information is the new currency in this digital age. You should assess the companies for which you'd like to submit reviews and learn about their privacy policies and how well they safeguard your information, and then decide if it is worth it to you to possibly risk your privacy in exchange for products.

Yes, I've done it with Amazon multiple times and had no problems. For example, I received a $25 face cream for free...all I did was write an honest review within 2 weeks of receiving the item. But, amazon just stopped offering this. I'm so bummed! The reason companies do it is so people with see a lot of reviews and want to check out the product. It drums up business.
