Anyone Get Sick During Pregnancy?

Hi everyone! I just recently miscarried and my husband and I decided to try soon after the fact (obviously with our midwife's consent) and I was having some pregnancy symptoms the past week. (You know, the tender breasts, bloatedness, urination, fatigue..) I do NOT know for sure if I am pregnant and there is plenty chance that I am not, however ruling that possibility would be foolish granted the way I've been feeling. Anyways, here's my question. Right before I may have conceived I had a sinus infection. When I was starting to feel better a bit, we had intercourse without protection and I was ovulating so I may have gotten pregnant that first time. I would only be in my 3rd week so I haven't even missed a period yet. So since I was sick with a viral infection my daughter got it too. Now she is sick with cough, runny nose, achiness (same as I had) and I am worried about the viral exposure during "pregnancy". I know I'm being a bit hyper but after losing a pregnancy already at the end of my first trimester, I do not want to rock the boat in any way if in fact I am pregnant. Anyone have experience being sick, being exposed to sickness, having little ones sick during pregnancy? I am looking to hear more about this cause I feel it may put my mind at ease either way knowing what the story is. Thanks for your feedback and experiences, in advance.

So What Happened?

You women are awesome! Thank you so much for your input. It helps so much to hear that it does in fact happen and that the fetus G-d willing can handle it. I know part of my nervousness is just emotions more than anything and I'm nervous from my experience with the last pregnancy. It helps SO SO much to have your support and experiences of normal situations even with being sick. I'm more than happy to hear from more of you! thank you! thank you! Thank you!

I'm sure it's different because mine was not a virus....but I was hospitalized with food poisoning when I was 6 weeks pregnant. The doctors all told me that there was VERY LITTLE risk to the baby. They did an ultrasound (actually my first one) just to be on the safe side, but really were not concerned about baby.
The rest of my pregnancy was uneventful, and baby was big and healthy so I'm assuming it was all harder on me than on her.
Best wishes if you are indeed pregnant :)

I have had the flu twice and a sinus infection one time during my current pregnancy. The first time I had the flu was in my first trimester and I was told there was very little risk to the baby from the viral infection - the greater risk was to myself since it could compromise my respiratory system. The baby seems to be doing great from all checkups and ultrasound, so I wouldn't think there's a lot to worry about, but you should definitely talk to your midwife if you're still concerned.

I was also put on amoxocillan to clear up my sinus infection during my second trimester.

The first couple of weeks of pregnancy are a "safe" time when there is no maternal-fetal circulation so things are less likely to affect the baby. A normal cold or flu virus is unlikely to have any effect on a fetus at any rate. Best wishes!

Unless it's mumps or measles I wouldn't worry about general colds and stuff while pregnant. I'd worry more about taking medications to treat them. Try to avoid the meds as much as possible. There are a lot of naturapathic remedies that work quite well....

To make you feel better-- I have a dear friend who had pneumonia while pregnant and everything was fine!

I got sick when I was pregnant more often than I had in the previous 2 years - your immune system gets a little out of whack during pregnancy. Don't worry about it. Assuming everything is right with the baby, being sick won't hurt it at all. Congrats on your (hopeful) pregnancy!
