My husband has to travel to Puerto Rico for work at the end of February and I thought it might be fun to make a short vacation out of it, although I know nothing about PR. Has anyone been there, is it worth it to go with two young boys, 5 and 2 1/2? Any information would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Puerto Rico is really nice. There are a lot of fun things to do with kids. You can take them to the rain forest and let them run around or take them to some of the beaches. At the Windam El Conquistador hotel you can go on a boat ride to a private island and play there with the kids all day. They could pick coconuts from the trees, or bananas etc. There are a lot of attractions out there also.

I always think traveling anywhere is worth it! There are nice beaches, a rain forest(national or state park) , and a cool fort (for the 5 year old) on the ocean in the capital city. Definately go for it. Couldn't tell you about resorts cuz we didn't stay in one.

My husband and I went to Puerto Rico at the end of February 3 years ago when he won a trip through work. We stayed at El Conquistador which is a 5 star resort. We did not bring our 3 young children, but I was surprised at how many kids were there. The weather was gorgeous and El Conquistador had several pools. We spent a day sightseeing in San Juan, and a day in the rainforest, but most of our stay was spent at the resort. Since your kids are too young to sightsee or get into the cultural aspect of PR, I guess whether or not you bring them probably depends on how kid-friendly your hotel/resort is and what amenities they offer. Good luck!

Have you heard about Vieques? It is a little island in PR; kind of close to the main island (you need to take a small aircraft from San Juan to get there, about 20 minutes?). Vieques has LOVELY, pristine beaches, and it is not full of tourists (the tourism industry is just starting to develop there because this island was occupied by the US Navy all these years; the Navy left just a few years ago). Snorkeling is great and there are some kid-friendly beaches (Green beach, my favorite!)--also be sure to the Bioluminescent Bay--my 2 kids loved it! You may not be able to see something like that anywhere else in the world. I rented a beachfront house (very cheap) and also a jeep to explore the beaches (that's the fun part of the trip!). I think there is also an inclusive resort.
