Interested in getting a Murphy Bed to make the most efficient use of our extra bedroom. Would love to hear your experience with them. Comfortable? Worth the money??? Cost?? Glad you did it?? Thanks for your input!

Hi E.-

I was hoping you would get a response from someone with personal experience...

But...a good friend of mine has a hubby with SEVERE back issues. He was unable to sleep on a regular bed...so they got a 'murphy'. He LOVES it...and it really is kind of like an ironing board that closes up into the wall in their bedroom. It looks (when it is closed) like part of their bookcase.

They like it!

Best luck!

Love, love, love our Murphy bed. We don't have it in a guest room, it is in our living room and hubby and I use it every night. It has been great for us. I can't speak on the cost because we got it free on Craigslist but it is just as comfortable as a "real" bed and its space saving abilities makes it priceless. I don't understand why everyone doesn't have one.

We are in the process of designing our new house and we are putting a murphy bed in my husband's office which will also serve as a guest room.

B/c I have not gotten the exact number I can only give you a high level number. If I can recall, I think it is going to roughly be $2000. I think it is totally worth it b/c I did not want waste square footage on a dedicated guest room which gets used 3 to 4 times a year.

I lived in a studio apartment in college with a Murphy bed. I don't know about the cost. If I'm not mistaken, it was a regular mattress on a platform. It was nothing like an awful sleeper sofa mattress. It was nice. We have recently considered downsizing because I hate wasted space. I figured we could put a Murphy bed in a playroom, or something. I definitely think it is worth the money and convenience if it's going to cost $2000 like another user suggested. It will be paid for in no time, when considering property tax and heat/cooling expenses on an extra room. You wouldn't regret it. I thought it was fantastic. Beats the look of a futon too, and a much better mattress.

I've slept on one and found it to be comfortable. They are expensive though, when compared with a ergular bed, daybed, or sofa/sleeper.

What kind of hosting are you doing? How long do your guests stay for? what other furniture might you have to move about when the murphy is pulled down?

If its for short term guests, I don't know if its worth the expense.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.
