Hey H., I've used cayenne pepper to repel ants. If you can find where they are coming in, just leave a thin trail of pepper and it will keep them out.

Hey Mamas! I am just wondering how to get rid of ants? I make sure to keep the floors clean, and mop after every meal my son eats so they don't have anything to feed on, but I keep finding them, and don't know how to get rid of them! Please help! TIA!
Thanks for all the great advice! We decided to get the house sprayed and he threw in a get bait for free! The great thing about this place is that the chemicals they use are organic and completely safe for children!!! They come today, so hopefully the ant problem will be fixed!! Thanks again!

I had the same problem about 5 years ago when I was pregnant with my 2nd. It was driving me crazy. After I had all I could take and they got in the pantry and my dtr's bathroom where all the liquid medicine was, we called Terminix! They said I had argentine ants (I believe) and on a scale of 1-10 in the attic, I was a 10 in the attic. So no matter what I did in my house, they were coming from the top! We've been on the quarterly plan with them ever since. Good luck!
I had this problem and discovered they were finding crumbs under the microwave! I tried Raid ant baits, with no luck. So, I bought Combat ant baits (which my mother has always sworn by) and they were gone in a day. I only left them out overnight or when we were gone for most of the day b/c my 1-year-old loves to pick them up. I also left them on the counter so they won't return. Every time I have had ant or roach problems I end up buying Combat ant or roach baits and they're gone fast! Good luck!
I've also had success with those little ant cups or ant baits--we had ants on our counters, so we could put the baits in places my DD couldn't reach (she was about 1 at the time). I don't like the idea of putting chemicals in your house if you have a little one crawling and putting stuff in his mouth. You should also try to figure out where their nest is, and eliminate that, if possible. Our ants were living in our clock radio (sounds crazy, but apparently they're attracted to electonics)! We threw away the radio, and the ant baits got the stragglers. You can also try cleaning with vinegar--it's supposed to disturb their scent trails, so they can't find their way home again. Good luck!
Whatever you do, don't hire a company to come and spray. Kids who are exposed to some chemicals in the pesticides have a higher rate of childhood LEUKEMIA. Proven in a study - - but not mentioned by any exterminating company. And baby will absorbed the chemical through the skin of bare hands and feet.
Once I used white vinegar on a trail of ants and it worked! Vinegar messes up their trail "scent." But I didn't have problem with returning ants at that time.
I like the one suggestion with the cinnamon. I will try that next time.
What kind of ants? I had a pest control company come to help me with our ant problem in our kitchen. We had these little tiny ants. The bug man said that since we had kids he'd rather not charge me to put chemicals down and recommended that I go to Home Depot and buy those ant baits. You have to get the ones that are sweet inside, especially if you have those tiny ants. If it isn't sweet bait, they won't even slow down for it.
Good luck!
White vinegar. Put into a spray bottle, spray the ant's pathway and the area where you saw the ants. They hate vinegar and will go away. It may take a couple of days and a few applications, but they will find another place to go and the vinegar is not harmful to humans or animals. The ants are only looking for water and food, make your "buffet" an unplesant place for them and they will go away.
I'm assuming you mean those VERY annoying little black ants. We had to have our bug guy get rid of them finally, they had spread from our back door which is in our kitchen to our pantry which is on the opposite side of the kitchen. He used sweet bait which sounds like the product others are recommending that turns to a gel. He dabbed some in corners and on the counter and pantry shelves. Then he set some traps out. Once he treated they were gone within 24 hours. He also told me to spray things down with vinegar wait a few minutes and wipe up the vinegar, it erases their scent trail. I've also heard of putting baby powder in your doorways etc. And make sure you don't have any caulk gaps around your back door that's really how they get in. Good luck!
Dr.Bronner's Peppermint soap (at Wholefoods) I put less then 1oz. in a 8oz. spray bottle fill the rest with water and when I see them I shack and spray they don't get 2 in. away before they are dead. And they were all gone in 1 week and haven't come back and that was 2 months or more ago. And the great thing is it's soap so you just wipe away and everything stays clean and smells good.
Have had ants for the past 2 years - called the exterminator, sprayed, bombed, everything until a friend told me about the RAID ant traps, Bought and tried them a couple of weeks ago(the white ones) and the ants have disappeared. It took a few days and they marched right to the traps. There were lines of them in my bathroom, kitchen window ceils, etc. The traps have been there a couple of weeks now and I haven't seen ants within the last 3 or 4 days. Got them at Target- 4 to a package and under $3.00 a pack.
I feel your pain!! We had ants late spring and I tried everything to get rid of them.. Finally, we called an exterminator and they haven't been back since :) Good luck!!
I use RAID ANT spray. It works great. You also need to find where they are tracking from and go outside your home and treat their nest outside. I think my husband uses ORTHO or something like that.
Good luck.
I really have had great success with the TERRO. It is a liquid that dries to become the consistency of honey but it is clear. Use this INSIDE.
For OUTSIDE, to keep them from living around the house (then they can't get in) use OVER AND OUT. It is awesome and lasts the entire season.
Good luck.

We use Demon spray a couple times a year. We spray the baseboards and outside also. It protects against all bugs/ants, and dries within a few minutes. We get it at the chemical store.
There is a product you can buy that will get rid of them. Go to your local hardware store & tell them your problem & they will direct you to the product because I cannot remember the name of it. It definately works!
Vinegar! cheap and eco friendly.Wipe down all walls and cabinets works everytime.Just put it in a spray bottle.
H.,
Contact a pest control company. I had that problem for years after I had treatmented for termites. I thought they were just regular small pesky ants. Seems they were carpenter ants and are just as bad as termites. They are termite enemies and also eat the wood from your home. Most pest controls will do a free inspection. Can't hurt to try. Good luck.
O know this may sound crazy because I thought it was when I first heard of it, but take ground cinnamon and sprinkle it around when you see the ants. Something is in it that repekks them. You may have to repeat it but it does work. Just make sure you leave it where you sprinkle until they are completely gone. Good thing is it is child safe and non-toxic to pets.
We had the same problem, and like the other mom we used the TERRO liquid ant killer. Works like a charm, but like she said make sure you put it out of reach of kids. Also my dh got some powder from Lowes that you sprinkle on the outside (along) your house that the guy recommended. One of those things did the trick - liquid or powder. Unfortunately my dh threw away the bottle to the powder so I don't have the name.
Good luck.
If it is those new black ants, I think they call them crazy ants, I am lost. I am also having a problem with these ants, and would love to know how to get rid of them without paying a professional or buying very expensive methods of getting rid of them. I have heard they are extremely hard to get rid of. If you find out something, send it my way, please...
Have you tried the Home Defense? YOu can get it at WalMart or even Home Depot. It also works to keeps other pests away. We use it and we have 2dogs, 1cat plus the 2 kids. Inside you spray base-boards (I also do the window sills). Outside you spray the base of the house, around cement, the base of trees...(outside just pretend you're an ant!).
If all else fails, go to Home Depot and ask them to point you to the ant traps (kinda like roach traps, I guess). My mother in law used them and they worked for her but not for my sister in law.
I prefer the Home Defense.
