I agree with the suggestion of a dehumidifier. I'd get O. & leave it in there if the room is prone to/accessible to water.
Hello Ladies,
So during the summer we had bad storm days, and water got in our basement. The basement is unfinished however there are two rooms that are being used as the laundry room and the other as a small gym by my husband. The gymroom had a carpet, which we removed, and right after getting all the water out I cleaned the floor with all kinds of cleaning liquids. However Im starting to get a moldy/humid smell. Sometimes it can be unbearable. Any recomendations on how to get rid of that horrible smell? I've tried putting cups filled with coffee beans in different locations of the basement and it worked for a while but its seems like that help is fading away. Any advise???

a dehumidafier, they run from 100-300 but they make a total difference, any basement should have one. they take the water out of the air and just help with the basement smell. you can also get a hose to hook up to a drain so you dont have to empty it multipul times a day if your basement is really damp
You say unfinished but then speak of rooms. That would imply walls. Walls can absorb water and if they are framed you could have all sorts of mold in the walls.
They have these can things that pull moisture out of the air. Can't remember what they are called but every hardware store sells them.
If it is between walls you have to go to the source. In other words tear out the drywall.
Sounds like you need to get a dehumidifier for the basement. too much moisture in the air. I swear it takes the musty smell away and then the basement is not as cold. Also, you might need to check with a professional cleaning service...they have products that may not be available on the market.
Get a dehumidifier.
It might be water that is behind the walls. Do you know of a handyman that could open it up and see if the seepage is still a bit moist? Might need to replace a few plaster boards. In the meantime get a dehumidifier and what you are doing is also correct.
If the smell is coming back, you haven't gotten to the source. You have to figure out what is still wet or how does it continue to get wet.
First thing you need to do is mop down the whole basement with BLEACH.
If the water level you had reached up the walls, you have to bleach the walls too. Then you need to open up your basement windows (since it's not humid right now) and let it air out. Then you have to invest in a good dehumidfier.
My sister gets water in her basement and we've become pros at getting it clean and fresh again. Hers is like yours. Unfinished with laundry room and exercise area.
