And I haven't gotten a gift! Any good ideas for an 8th aniversary?

My husband owns just about every movie he could possibly want. Also, he's a recovering alcoholic, so no bottles of wine :-)

What can I do next?

Plan a fun outing for the two of you. We went mini golfing, it was different, and so nice to do something silly like that without the kids.

We will also celebrate tomorrow. Since we are both on medicine, the alcohol is out. Maybe a sparkling juice.

Dinner out and a movie or something. We don't need anything we have so much now. Perhaps we should have a reverse anniversary gift giveaway to clear out the house.

Enjoy your 8th as we enjoy our 42nd. Keep the fires aglow and love each other. Don't worry about the stuff as we can always have too much of that but we can't have each other forever. Find something you love about your SO each day and say thank you while you can. You never know when he/she might not be around. I can count in the last five years about three times that he may have left but through the miracles of medicine and his determination, he is still here. A toast to you and yours of ginger ale.

My DH doesn't need stuff, so I get activity-based gifts. Tickets to a play, the symphonhy, a movie, or a surprise dinner out. A sports massage.

Our 9th anniversary was last month and we celebrated by going to the Chop House. It was about 6 hours total (2 hour drive almost each way) and we took our time at dinner and really enjoyed a nice long date night.

We sometimes do big gifts, but have learned we really enjoy putting the money into a nice date night. Neither of us drink, so that's never an option for us :).

Congrats to your husband on his sobriety! Wish him luck in continued efforts!
I would arrange a nice surprise dinner for him or someone else suggested a massage! My DH loves massages! Especially the deep tissue massage or a hot stone massage! Those are heaven!
Maybe a gift card to JCP, Dillards or someplace like that. So many ideas!
Congrats and have fun!

The traditional gift for 8th anniversary is bronze. Is there any type of home decorating item that he would like in bronze, such as a this statue: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Cast-Bronze-Couple-E...

Or perhaps a cool metal wall artwork, or something for the garden, or jewelry?

Congratulations!

Recreate a special moment in your relationship, such as first date or wedding diner.

Do something he has said he always wanted to, but never found the time for.

Pose for pin-up pictures (they can be as tasteful or as risque as you want).

Ya know that song "You are my Sunshine..." my only sunshine... etc.
Its real cute. Its probably online for free someplace, maybe on YouTube etc.
Maybe you can play that for him when he walks in the door.
And give him a big hug and make him a nice dinner etc.
Simple.
And write him a poem in your own words. Frame it.

Date night! Get a sitter and go out to a nice, grown up restaurant.
Or, give him tickets to something, a show, concert, comedy club or sporting event, and then you have a future date night to look forward to.
That's what we usually do :-)

We usually don't do gifts for our anniversary. We go out to a "nicer" restaurant than we normally do. Although he always buys me a nice piece of jewlery. lol We went miniature golfing with friends for my bday this year and that was really fun. Or maybe go bowling. I think any time you spend together with your spouse is the best gift of all. =0)
