Hi, M....
I heard about the evacuation on the news this evening, and it is very sad that this happens. I know how upset everybody kept getting when we were getting multiple bomb threats while I was in high school (and I graduated in '84!). I just plain got MAD at that gal for interrupting MY day!!! :)
You can take what happened today in 1 of 2 ways.
1.) Your daughter learned to follow instructions in the case of an emaergency, and she did FINE. As you said, when you found her, she was playing with her friends and she was happy.
In the future, if there is a tornado or fire, for example, she will remember what she learned today, and she will be able to help another child who might be more frightened. (A great leadership skill!)
2.) You can pull your daughter out of the school, and make the whole experience a "negative" thing for her.
Life is what we make of it, and it's up to us as parents to teach our children how to make the choice. If you choose to make today's experience a "negative" thing for your daughter, that is how she will react to other emergencies in her future. Unfortunately, our public schools are not the only places where these events are happening, and your daughter learned a lot today, that she might not have learned being home schooled. (I'm not advocating "for" or "against" home schooling OR public schools. You can message me or call me and I will explain.)
When you take her to school, just give her a big hug and kiss and tell her you love her and that you are proud of her...period.
Glad everything turned out okay today!!
