After Baby Can Eat "Puffs", What Finger Foods Do You Try Next?

Hi moms,
My baby can finally eat puffs, including putting them in his own mouth (along with 3 on the floor for every 1 that gets in the right place!). What soft finger foods do you move to next? He's 10 mos, so is "allowed" to eat most food categories, but only has 2 bottom front teeth, so I'm not sure about his chewing abilities.

I was having trouble thinking of something firm enough to pick up, but still soft enough to gum into bites.

Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

I always started my kids on breakfast foods first, microwave pancakes, waffles, and french toast sticks. Bananas were also a favorite. Then I just slowly offered tiny pieces of whatever we were having for dinner and soon enough they were eating everything!

Ohhhh, this is such a fun time for starting new food. Just remember to introduce them slowly, so you are aware of any allergies. You can get some soft turkey or chicken, soft cheese, cheerios, avocado, peas, carrots, sweet potato. My son LOVES hummus, so you can even dip a cracker in hummus and let him gnaw on it.

B., so funny to have read this request today! I just sent an email to a handful of girlfriends to ask the same question about my 9 month old daughter. Here are the responses I got and the information from my attempts):

pea size pieces of cheese (I used pre-cubed cheddar cheese and then picked off little specks, smooshed them into my fingers, and then put them on the high chair tray. Worked out great!)

toast (I had 12 grain bread, so couldn't give that to her, so I used an English muffin. toasted it lightly, then peeled off little pea size bits from the soft bread part- didn't touch the crust)

Crumbled up hard boiled egg YOLK (I haven't tried it yet)

Steamed carrots- super soft, then broken up (I haven't tried it yet)

Good luck to you! If you have a good experience with the latter of the 2, let me know!

after puffs I tried banana - kinda hard to pick up but it still worked.. i also mushed it a little in my finger. but not too much banana - its constipating!
soft carrots - if you can cut the carrot with the side of a spoon or fork then its soft enough.
I did small meatballs cut up. Foster's makes 100% natural meatballs.
Pasta - nothing too tiny or too striny.
anything small enough that you can cut with the side of a fork or spoon should be okay for your little man.

I have a great chart I can email you if you'd like.
and keep in mind that those gum's are sharp! did you ever rub your finger over his gums - very sharp. My daughter is 15 months old, has 8 teeth in the front and still seems to eat alot with her gums.

have you tried pasta? my son is 10 months old also and is pretty much eating whatever (he has 5 teeth now, finally). he likes bananas cut up real small and canned peaches, pancakes, scrambled egg with cheese and toast even cut up into small pieces. Don't under estimate his biting abilities. Try what you feel is soft enough, just cut it up real small and watch him when he eats. good luck!
