I am a working single mother trying to make ends meet. I had a SAHM watching my beautiful 6-month old Peter, but now she has moved on for more money. Does anyone have any ideas about finding affordable childcare? Another issue is that I work in retail. This means I can work until 8pm and sometimes my hours change. Please help if you have any ideas!
i have yet to deliver (3 days late) but have already started looking at options. My husband is a Chef in a hotel (Evanston) and I also work in a hotel (downtown) so both of our hours can change. I would be interested in seeing if you find anything and would definately be interested in sitter share/swap if possible. I live in villa park so I can only do the lombard, elmhurst, oakbrook area. I look forward to seing more responses!
H., this is the biggest issue I face as a mom. I'm a chef so I hear you about non-traditional hours. I actually lose money when I work because of the high cost of childcare, and finding sitters that will work the non-traditional hours (and not charge a fortune) is nearly impossible. Unfortunately my solution has been NOT to work. If I did not have my husband's income I don't know what I would do! I truly feel for you.
Since I am only trying to work PT, I have considered a babysitting swap with another mom with little to no money changing hands. However that would not work with a FT schedule... I sincerely wish you the best of luck on this, and if you find a solution PLEASE let me know! I live in Elmhurst, so my options are pretty much the same as yours.

I live in Glen Ellyn Countryside and do home day care for over 14 years. I am the mother of 24,22,13,11 and have guardianship of my 6 year old grandson. Right now I have a 2 year old part time girl and a 7 year old part time boy.
