A Good Book Suggestion???

I love Neil Gaiman--both his stuff for adults and kids. I only read him while on vacation because once I start a book I tend to get sucked in and neglect other things.

Bridget Jones Diary and Bridget Jones Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding are both funny, light reads.

I just read The 19th Wife and thought it was very interesting and good. I also just read The Sea Captains Wife by Beth Powning and could not put it down!!! It was great!

Check out the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. (Don't be scared away by the ridiculously stupid movie they made that was "supposedly" based off the book...it wasn't.) Besides Confessions of a Shopaholic, there are S. takes Manhatten, S. Ties the Knot, S. and Baby, S. and Sister, and it seems like there might be one more I'm forgetting. I'm not much for shopping or girly stories...and I LOVED these because they will seriously have you laughing out loud. Funniest books I ever read.

Also, if you haven't, read the Gunslinger/Dark Tower series by Stephen King (in order, of course.) They are marvelous...and not really horror, but a mix of adventure, suspense, romance, and so much more. My favorite books ever.

Look Again by Lisa Scottoline, it's the best book I've read recently.

I enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and I am reading the Sookie Stackhouse series right now. I really like Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series...good historical fiction/fantasy with a healthy dose of romance. Jasper Fforde has a couple of good series...Thursday Next and Nursery Crimes...they are hilarious especially if you are familiar with the classics or children's nursery rhymes. Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game series is good but it's striaght up science fiction, though I think if you liked Hunger Games then you might like this. On a completely different note, Zora Neale Hurston is my fav southern writer and I have to recommend Their Eyes Were Watching God. Happy reading!

Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan is one of the most amazing books I have ever read, you won't be disappointed. I haven't read a book as good as this in a long time.

I just finished reading Something Borrowed and Something Blue. If you want an easy and somewhat entertaining read I would suggest those.

I also really liked Year of Yes and Me Times Three, those ones were funny and cute and I really enjoyed those. :)

Suzanne Collins (author of The Hunger Games) also wrote the Underland Chronicles, starting with Gregor the Overlander. It is also very good, but quite different from The Hunger Games. I really enjoyed it.

I also like anything by Sarah Addison Allen. She's my new favorite author. Her books are Garden Spells, Sugar Queen, The Girl Who Chased the Moon, and The Peach Keeper. All are excellent.

I love anything that Harlan Coben writes. "Hold Tight" and also "The Woods" are really good and suspensful! If you need a cute and easy read, I recommend the Blossom Street Series by Debbie MaComber. Happy Reading!

I just finished "Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter" by Tom Franklin, who just won the LA Times Book Award. It's a mystery but also has great characters with other things going on. Loved The Help!
I read an older book last year but really enjoyed it, called Year of Wonders, about the Plague. Also, a few years old but if you haven't read it, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Loved it! The Dragon Tattoo series. I also read Room, which I didn't love but LOTS of people do. Hmmm. Someone mentioned Bossypants--you said you don't do autobiography but it does look great. Oh, also Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, who wrote Seabiscuit. Oh, and I just read Outliers, which is nonfiction (Malcolm Gladwell) but fascinating. I couldn't put it down, and I'm not really a nonfiction fan. Okay, that's my .02 worth-- give us some reviews!

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. If you don't laugh out loud there is something wrong with you.
Sherrilyn Kenyon ... absolutely anything she writes. I totally LOVE her.
Katie MacAlister ... Love her stuff too. My absolute fave though is A Girls Guide to Vampires. SOOOOO hysterical.
Catherine Coulter ... I've always been a fan but LOVE her FBI thriller series.
Johanna Lyndsey ... all romance but I love her work.
Michael Crichton ... my fave of his is State of Fear. Gives a whole new take on "global warming".
Dan Brown ... I've read everything he's done except for The Lost Symbol (I have it just haven't read it yet).
Marcus Pelegrimas ... his books are in the horror section ... but honestly ... if I can read them ... they aren't that bad (I can't read stephen king if that tells ya anything) LOL it's the Skinner series and book one is called Blood Blade. I REALLY enjoyed the first three books and need to get the 4th. Could NOT put them down.
Douglas Adams ... Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. Very funny.
Christine Feehan ... She's got a few series but her most popular are her Carpathians (aka vampires).

I guess it depends on what you like to read. I really liked the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlene Harris. Totally surprised me, I wasn't expecting to like it. The same with the Harry Potter series. I didn't read a single one till all of the books were out and my MIL pretty much forced me too. I read all of them in like seven weeks! I just couldn't put it down, and they are by far my favorite reads. If you are more into thrillers Watchers by Dean Koontz is fun. If you are a dog lover Marley in Me by John Grogan is a must. I really wish he would put out another book, I loved the way he writes. Hopefully at the end of the year I can add the book I just wrote to the list. :) I think that will cover a pretty broad spectrum!

Laurien Berenson has a mystery series that is cute and funny too, the one who solves them has poodles if you like dogs

Donna Andrews- her Meg Lanslow series are great, very funny and mystery at the same time. Quick read and I am always on the lookout for a new one

Debbie Maccomber- I like her knitting series, light, cheerful reading

Janet Evanovich- funny, mysteries, the number series are my favorites

The books that just got made into a movie, "Something Borrowed" & the sequel "Something Blue", plus "Baby Proof" by Emily Giffin are definitely "couldn't put it down" books! ANYTHING by Jodi Picoult & Anita Shreve are favorites of mine. "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Steig Larsson was very good, though the 2nd book, "...Played with Fire" was slow to get into (ended up really good). "Water for Elephants" (now a movie) was excellent. My sis-in-law loves all the "Shopaholic" books. Did you read Dan Brown's "DaVinci Code", etc.? Bill Bryson is a very funny author, & I loved "A Walk in the Woods" about the Appalachian Trail, & "In a Sunburned Country" about his travels to Australia, though "A Brief History of Nearly Everything" is absolutely tedious. "Marley & Me" (John Grogan) was excellent, if you haven't already seen the movie. "Three Bags Full" (author?) was a quirky, fun story. Kristin Hannah writes nice stuff. I also personally like anything by Stephen King. I'm currently finishing the 4th book in the Twilight series - while enormous books, they are pretty quick, easy reads, and enjoyable (I am not obsessed with them as some are, however). Hope you find something good!

I LOVE Hunger Games. Did you know they are making a movie on them?

The Vampire Academy series is along the lines of Hunger Games as far as light & interesting reading goes. The Sookie Stackhouse series (also known as the True Blood books) are very funny. Yes, another series about vampires but I was able to get past it and learned to appreciate the witty clever humor.

I have only read one Fannie Flagg book but enjoyed it. If you are a fan of hers, try reading "Saving CeCe Honeycutt".

I love Meg Cabot's series "Size 12 is not Fat", "Size 14 isn't Fat Either" and "Big Boned". Its a thriller but also so hilarious and a very light read.

My favorite thrillers are by Brad Metzler. He knows his stuff about our legislative branch and seems to be a very smart writer.
