What are your first impressions if you met a boy named Rush? What about a man named Rush? Would you think that his parents love the band Rush? Would you assume his parents are Rush Limbaugh fans? What are your thoughts/opinions on the name? I personally like the name, but am just curious what ou ladies think.
No. I'm not pregnant. But for the past two years I've had the name Rush on my list of baby names if we ever have another. I also like the name Dane. I posted a question months ago about girl names with "Ann" in them too, as Ann is a family middle name. So I was just curious if you ladies liked the name or hated the name (esp with Rush Limbaugh a well-known name in the media.) I personally like Rush Limbaugh, so would be totally fine naming my son Rush. And no, I don't have a basement full of gold. I WISH! I too liked the movie August Rush.
@Kelly -- a rugged man, sound great. Sounds like my husband. I like rugged.
@ Leigh -- your post is kind of the answer I was looking for. I guess I was wondering if people would always ask "Where'd you come up with that name" or not. I guess with a name like Rush people might ask. A name like John, people probably wouldn't ask.
I love y'all's responses, even if you hated the name. Those of you who said 'it's a verb! Not a name" y'all made me laugh. I guess you gotta consider all things when deciding on a name! We have these two friends. They're naming their kiddo Gunner. Other friends are naming their kiddo Hunter. So maybe next kiddo, we'll follow suit and name our child Fisher or Rifle or Beau (bow and arrow)? HA just kidding. I'm not following suit with those names.

I thought of Rush Limbaugh too. A very loaded name these days. It is a nice-sounding name, but I'd probably head in a different direction if I were you.

As others have said, if it weren't for Limbaugh, it would be cute.
I think it's horrible, sorry. I hate the sound of it and I would think you're huge Rush Limbaugh fans or Stargate Universe fans. I would probably feel bad for someone given the name as opposed to it being a nickname or a surname. It's GREAT as nickname for a football player, for instance.

Anyway I know someone who called their son J.R. no kidding. I asked him, so what does J.R. stand for.. he said, nothing. It is J.R. ya know, like JR from Dallas... I was laughing silently in my head....

I like the name and I didn't assume anything until I read further. I have sort of forgotten about Rush Limbaugh and I like music but don't pay much attention to bands.
I think the name is very cute for a little guy and I think it could work for an adult as well.
The first thing that came to my mind was the movie "August Rush". I loved it, and my heart is all warm, now. I am not familiar with the band, so Rush Limabugh is the next thing that comes to mind.

IMO, it sounds either like an old generation Southern name of perhaps a snooty New England WASP name.

The first thing I think of is my 2 year old daughter saying "Russ" and it coming out "Rush" because she has trouble with her "S" sounds. Or Blue Crush the movie, it sounds like a surfer type name.

Not a fan of Rush or the name. Unfortunately most people (me included) do wonder where names come from for a split second. In my son's class there is a boy named Jagger. Really cool kid and if you saw his dad (a musician) you would know why he was named Jagger. I think you are right some people may think it would be the band Rush or Rush the big fat idiot. So my advice would be stick with the name Dane it sounds cool and nice.

When I 1st read this I immediately thought of the band RUSH, and liked it. Then I read further about Rush Limbaugh and I thought yuck.
Even though you like Rush Limbaugh, ask yourself whether (if you named a son Rush) you would really be ready to answer this question over and over and over for at least the first few years if not longer: "Oh, is he named for Rush Limbaugh?" You'll get it from friends, family, total strangers. If you are prepared to answer it until you're sick of it and then long after that, go for it, but those kinds of questions would drive me nuts, no matter what the name or the famous person associated with the name. I'd just find it annoying to have to say over and over, "No he's not named FOR Rush Limbaugh...."
Personally I think its horrid. It doesnt sound like a name but an action. We prefered more traditional names when naming our children.
All I can think of is the insane amount of times he'll hear this, "So where are you *rushing* to?" "Are you *rushing* out of here?" "No need to *rush.*" "Can you put a *rush* on that." The list goes on!!
I am late but I love it! I like different names too! My boys are Blayse (Blaze) and Dagon (Day-gun). My dad's name is Dane, it's a nice strong name I think.
That's hilarious that someone said, "It's a verb." I LOVE verb names! Hope, Drew, Grace, Reid. Don't get me wrong; I wouldn't name my kid Scurry or Hop or Scream, but I like Rush. :)

Can't make fun of original names...love them! We named our boys Gunnar, Maverick and Ethan. (couldn't keep up so that's how our 3rd is Ethan). We love the names and were used to the joke about Top Gun-was funny the first 100 times we heard it lol love the name Rush, but that's from someone who is obviously biased.
I wouldn't assume anything about either his parents' musical taste or their political leanings. I would just figure they liked the name Rush.
I dont like the name, sorry..life is hectic enough, I think if a wirlwind just thinkign about it. But hey its your kid, your name ;-)
I used to work at a nursery and one of the boys had this name. While I thought hat this was an unusual name, I never made any associations with it... until now! I think it is a perfectly fine name. It seems a little mature though, so it might not bee fitting for all little boys. The boy that I knew was a very serious little boy and it suited him. I have never met a man named Rush, but I picture him as a very rugged man.
