6 Year Old, Growing Out Bangs, Need Style Ideas...

My daughter wants to grow out her bangs. Right now they are constantly in her eyes. Her hair is pretty fine so a lot of clips and such just won't stay in her hair. Any ideas on how to make her hair look nice and comfortable from Moms who've been through this phase? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi there, I know what you are going through and although we just had a lot of "bad hair days" there was one thing that worked better than others. I would just get 3 or five separated sections at the forehead and twist and put into a little tiny ponytail holder half way down the head. hope this helps a little, have fun!!!

We went through it last summer and then gave up and cut them, but this year (my now 7 year old) is committed to doing whatever it takes lol. This is what we are doing different from last year and seems to be working for us. First we completely parted her hair now on the side instead of the middle; we make sure we especially focus on this after showers when the hair is wet so we can "re-train" the hair. Second while the hair is wet, we sweep all of the bangs over to the side and put a big clip in it and let her sleep in it. In the morning we re-brush the hair and do the same thing - now again her hair is fine, so it falls out, so I do just a little twist and then clip it and it seems to stay for most of the day. I have also shown her how to fix the clip herself, so as it falls throughout the day, she can do it. It seems to be working for us, in fact just the other day she commented "look mom, my bangs are LEARNING how to do it all by themselves!!!" - Just keep with it and keep a clip etc in her hair at all times and pretty soon you will notice her that her bangs will learn how to do it themselves too! hahaha

My daughter has a lot of thick, heavy hair. We use wide elastic headbands to hold the hair out of her eyes. The only thing that works. We have some from Target & Gymboree.

My daughter also has fine hair and grew out her bangs around the same age. It's good to do it now and get it over with!

I'm sure you've discovered that barrettes don't stay put in fine hair. The best solution we found was hair bands. The molded plastic ones with little teeth at Target worked best for her. Not every kind works for every shape head though. Some "popped up" on my daughter. We tried the elastic style and they were too big for her head shape and it didn't really work to make them smaller. Maybe they come in smaller sizes now though. If you sew, you might also look into making some scrunchie style hairbands that will fit her head.

She went to a party at Libby Lu or one of those places and they parted her hair into rows and twisted each group of hair tightly and placed those little clips at the crown of her head. That looked really cute and stayed for the afternoon, but I could never recreate it successfully myself. Maybe with gel it would work?

Headbands are all the rage right now and they are not expensive. They come in all colors and fabrics - give it a try.

My daughter, although much younger, has the same issue with her bangs. I have found that the best thing to use is a bobby pin. You get a million for really cheap and they stay forever! Best place to pick them up, if you have access, is a beauty store. They ones in the super market will work as well but I have found that the ones at beauty stores are much more sturdy and hold in place for much longer periods of time.
