5 Hr Energy

Has anyone ever tried this? I have the narcolespy and my medicine isn't helping much any more to keep me awake. Yesterday I fell asleep sitting up in my comfy office chair. Today I fell asleep in my chair with my head in my hand. :( This is an aweful feeling to be so tired after a good night of sleep.

I don't have insurance to have any further testing. I am however, working on this to see what I can get done.

So 5 hr energy? Yes or no?

I haven't tried this drink.

However, if/when you have the money, have a sleep test done--sleep apnea could also cause this behavior.

I've been taking an energy shot that contains no caffeine, no sugar and has only 5 calories. And, it is actually healthy! It is about sustained energy rather than just a boost of energy for a short period of time. It also helps with mental clarity and focus. Let me know if you'd like some info.

I have NOT tried it but the people that I know who have says it's a short bust of energy -- nowhere near 5 hours followed by rebound tiredness....

My husband lives on these and swears by them. I have also tried them, and they don't help me that much. But I do know alot of people who also love them. I would say buy a few and try them. They come in about 6 flavors now I think and they also have an extra strength one too (or something like that).

I have used it many times and for me it does work. OR I think it works. I don't know if it's a mind trick or if it really does give me that physical boost. I find it to be less harmful than some of that other stuff out there. It doesn't make me jittery like the other stuff can. I'm not sure how it will effect you esp with the narcolepsy. If you were going to try it do it at home and maybe only half of the bottle to see. Good luck.....

I don't know about the narcolespy but the 5 hr drinks do work. I would only use for a short time and not everyday. A friend of mine used them in college and now they don't phase her. I use them on a every once in a while thing. Oh and they have orange that doesn't taste to bad.

NO NO NO!! Very dangerous, and you get a crash afterwards! This is just caffeine in very high doses! These are also very expensive drinks for what you get.

There is an alternative product which just one an award from the American Business association - no caffeine, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, 5 calories per serving. No crash, no manipulation of the central nervous system, well researched and based on brain science. Contact me for info and the website.

Do not do vitamins in isolation - B vitamins, any vitamins. That is not how nature intended us to get our nutrition. Nutrients work together so you need vitamins, minerals, trace elements, etc. in one powder formulation that you mix with water. No pills (not absorbed, a lot of money wasted).

You don't know for sure if you had a good night's sleep unless you have had a sleep study - perhaps you have if you have a diagnosis of narcolepsy. But the absence of REM sleep (even if you aren't aware of it) is a big piece of exhaustion.

My husband uses them often. He goes to work super early so when we have a late night and he has to go to work the next morning he takes a 5 hour energy with him. He says it really helps him and there's no hard crash like with energy drinks like Monster or Red Bull. And he said it does last the 5 hours.

What's worked really well for me lately is to get a 5000 mcg of B12 sustained release. I went from completely exhausted to able to function like a normal person for a good 10-12 hrs. Here's the one I use and it's on sale right now. It's definitely not the cheapest, but I can say that it works.

I totally get the insurance/doctor thing. I'm in the same boat trying to figure out everything for myself.

One other thing, are you sure that it is narcolespy? Could it be sleep apnea instead? I know people with SA that would fall asleep like you described before they got a SA machine.

5 hour energy gave me the worse stomach ache I have ever had. I am going to try the B12 thing. Seriously lacking energy lately. Curious to see what works for you. Keep us posted with the outcome!

Have you tried Yerba Mate? Its a different type of tea- and VERY strong, and there's no "crash". Like, if you want to sleep, don't take it anywhere near bedtime. It also doesn't make you feel uncomfortably jittery like strong coffee can.

We also sometimes take Amazon Energy or Steaz Energy... both of those drinks are in the natural/organic section of our grocery. We try to always buy organic and what is good for us.

I just heard that 5 hr energy tastes terrible, and doesn't work well.

My husband swears by them. He says they don't cause him to crash or make him feel uncomfortable and jittery. I have not tried them so this is second hand info. What's the harm in trying it? If it works for you, great. If not, no harm done. I say, try it.

sorry, don't know about 5 hr energy

I could recommend some nutritional items that might help but you might want to consider a nutritional evaluation be done by a "natural" physician when you can afford it.

5 hour energy works for me. But its expensive. I take a Bcomplex every morning that really wakes me up and its very cheap. I have to take another around 3pm for that afternoon sluggishness, but it works.

I dont know if all this is relevant if you have narcolepsy. If I were you, I would do some research online to see what the experts reccomend. People with real conditions often have a "paradoxical effect" from medications. Meaning, they have the opposite effect as they would on the rest of the population. At one point when I was clinically depressed, I was so sleepy all the time. I would stop at the coffee shop and get a grande with 3 extra shots - thats 4 shots of espresso, and I would get so sleepy I could barely walk. I'd go to the closest arm chair or couch adn fall fast asleep.

Not from what I've heard - too many negatives.
My son now uses NuvoGene Tea - a tasty punch you mix in a bottle of water (green tea base) = natural & healthy. Keeps him awake and alert through work/school. At the same time - it burns unwanted fat :) and supresses yor appetite! You can visit www.slendersips.com to learn more.
