Hi moms. I am trying to plan 40th wedding anniversary parties for both my in-laws and my parents this year, one next weekend. I would like to help my 2 year old make or do something special for her grandparents but I am having a hard time thinking of something. Anyone have any ideas of something my two year old can make to help make her grandparent's 40th special? Thanks for your ideas:)

What can I do next?

HI... there is a studio in down town mckinney where you paint pottery and you can make special plates with hand prints and that kind of thing it is VERY nice and beautiful. the place I think is called Walls of Clay.

Hope that helps.

How about a Handprint/Footprint plate that says Happy 40th Anniv. You can make your own at Painted Piggies, or someone will do the artwork for you with www.heavenlytoes.com. Good luck.

Buy a small picture frame that will hold your child's hand print...one of those double sided ones. Get Plaster of Paris and mix some, pour it on top of the glass on one side of the picture frame. Put your little one's hand print in it. Then put a pic of your little one on the other side. So it stands by itself, has a cute pic on one side and the handprint on the other.

I did this with all my kids when they were about a year old for my husband's father's days and he still has them. The oldest one is ten years old and has held up beautifully. He keeps them in his office and everyone loves them. I think I got the idea from a Family Fun magazine...

Have your child do a handprint heart (go to http://www.littlegiraffes.com/handprintcalendar.html and look at Februrary for a visual). Then place a picture of your parents inside the Heart. You can choose their wedding pic, or a more recent photo... or have your child do 2 hearts and have both pics. Add a favorite quote about love or a personal note to them about the example they've set for you and your children. Frame the whole thing.

Good luck!

Depending on your budget, you could go to one of the paint your own pottery places. The two that I know about are Color Me Mine and Art from the Heart. They could help you do something with your 2 year old's handprint and the baby's footprint.

Take a piece of legal size paper and trace the hands and then allow the child to draw on the page all they want to. You can also add a picture of her drawing and having her hands traced. Then on the other side do a collage of pictures of your child with their grandparents from birth to two. Take it to kinkos and have it laminated and you have a placemat as a gift. You can do one for each grandparent and even personalize with pictures of just one grandparent and child or both together or whatever other idea you get. A.

When my boys were 1 1/2 & 4, I took pictures they had done at daycare and home, laminated them and made a calendar. The pictures were at the top with a calendar I printed on the computer and added family birthdays, and other special days. The months were mounted on construction paper and laminated also. I punched holes at the top and put ribbon through to hang it and keep it together. It was adorable. You can get very creative with it.

Dear P., guess what?? I am currently working on my parents 50th wedding annv. this sat. Anyway when my kids were little we got a tee shirt that their father could wear and I put their hand in shirt paint and put them on them on the shirt. Then I wrote Daddys helping hands above them and put the date. you could do it on an apron, or a frame or concrete for a yard decoration. Good Luck.

Hi P.. Have you considered going to a pottery shop and letting your little one paint a platter or other item?

I did this for my grandparents 50th anniversary. I hunted around for a nice-looking tree branch that had several branches attached(or you could buy one at a craft store.) I spray painted it gold, and then I hung family pictures that I had glued to a card stock backing from the branches with ribbon. My grandparents loved it, and it made a special keepsake. Your children could also just use pictures of themselves instead of pictures of the whole family.

Using Plaster Paris, make your children's handprint in a paper plate and date it, put there name on it etc...there are some kits you can buy, at the local stores...My daughter is 42, and in Pre-K, she made me her handprint..I still have it in my dresser drawer..I look at it and think how the years have gone by...and how small her little hand...was..To me it is a treasure...you might want to add a picture of them also...I did that later....

Try having a picture you have of the four of them(husband, wife and grandchildren. Buy a matt to go around the picture. Take poster paint and put your childrens hands in the paint and then on the matt. Let it dry. Write the date and names and frame.
