M.M.
I was dilated to 4 at 37 weeks and stayed that way. I never actually went into labor on my own. I wound up being induced.
So...no. Not necessarily.
I just left the doctor and he said the baby's head is really low, and I am 3cm dilated. I am 37 weeks. He said that he would be suprised if I made it to 39 weeks.
I live pretty far from my work, so my hospital is pretty far from my work. Should I stop working, and get buckled down on preparing for baby?! Could he come any day? 3cm just seems like alot to me for 37 weeks.
Anyone experienced this before?
I have vacation this weekend.....a 4 day weekend. So I will see if anything happens by Tuesday. If not, I am probably going to get a doctors note to stop working. I get paid either way, and I am only working 4 hours.....so rather not go to work and risk going into labor at work and having to delivery at a hospital an hour from my family, I think I should just take the time.
There is a hospital near my work, but I wouldnt be with my doctor, and my family would all have to travel an hour there and back to come see us. It would be a pain, and I really dont want to delivery there....not a good hospital.

With my last I was 3 cm for like 2 weeks or longer, it seemed like forever. You just never know when. I would just keep an eye out for other symptoms as you're getting closer.
I was 2cm, she was low and I had to be induced at 41 weeks. My last one I walked around 3cm for 3 weeks.
not uncommon to be dialated up to even 4 cm for a few weeks especially being a second child or more, but you are having your kiddo's VERY close together so you are more likely to go into labor early this time around! Take it easy
Yep. I was 3cm and 80% at my 37 week appointment (37w4d) and the same the next week (even though I lost my plug at 37w5d). I had read that these things may mean weeks still left waiting (I had assumed I would still be late), so i continued life as usual (going to work, running errands, exercise routine, chasing after my 3-year-old). My daughter came just before her due date (39w3d—last Wednesday!)
Going into labor "soon" can mean a day or two or almost two weeks. At the very least you know that it will cut down on your actual labor time!
I was around 3cm at 37 weeks as well... I was also 4 days overdue until my water broke at midnight! Even then, it was about 10 more hours until I gave birth. It really just depends, every single birth is different.
If I were you, I would probably take a break from work pretty soon, or at least make preparations for a driver (and bring your suitcase with you) should you go into labor at work.
I was told that at exactly the same point in my first pregnancy. I stopped working that Friday. My son was born the first day of my 38th week.
Is this your first baby? I was told it is significant when it's your first, though not as much with your second. I also dilated to 3cm in my 37th week with my second, but he hung on until the end of week 39.
I was so glad I stopped working a few days after they told my I was dilated with my first son. You could have a week to go, or possibly just a few days. Use them for a few last-minute things--including sleep!
This is a tough one for me. My #1 and #3 were both 37 weekers. But I had preterm labor with my first, and my last pregnancy felt just like my first w/o all the contractions so I had a strange feeling he'd be early like my first...I'd go with your gut on this one. I was right on with all my pregnancies.
I would not stop working. You could stay three centimeters for a long time, trust me. Been there. Just take it one week at a time.
I walked around like that for a long time. I can't remember, but something like from 36 weeks with my first and he was induced at 42 weeks. I was dilated a few cms with my other kids too a few weeks before delivering.
Unless you had a super-fast labor with your last one, I would just go on with business as usual. The chances of delivering within an hour of the onset of labor are really, really slim. You'll probably have plenty of time go get to the hospital no matter where you are when labor starts.
You could stay at 3 cm for a long time. I wouldn't start taking time off of work just yet.
Is there any way that you can tele commute so that you can be home "in case" yet still work? That might solve your problem. Both of my kids were born at 36 weeks.
I lasted a week at 3cm. Delivered at exactly 38 weeks. Water broke.
Congratulations!
My son came 3 weeks early. In fact it was the night I had a dr's appt ;).
Is there any hospital close to your work?
You could walk around like that for the next month. I would just go about business as normal. You will have plenty of time to get to the hospital, labor takes hours. I was at a 1 for forever, I still had to be induced.
