2Yr Old's Winter Birthday

My daughter will be 2 at the end of February (nothing like planning ahead!) and I am starting to think about her birthday party. Being in the dead of winter means inside activites of course. I am planning to have her party at our home, and expect maybe 8 kids ranging from 2-5. I would love some ideas for a great theme (*theme-y* kids menu, decor, etc)and some fun inside activites that all of the kids would enjoy. Looking to experienced mom's for some creative assistance! Thanks in advance for your help.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your input! I browsed the themes on that site and I think I have decided to do a pajama party. I will do it earlier in the day and serve breakfast foods (maybe even do muffin tin meals which are adorable) and let the kids decorate pillow cases for their activity. I still have time to decide the specifics, but I love the idea of having the kids come in their pj's.

Honestly if i was going to have a birthday party for my daughter at 2yrs old i would go to a jumping place. One of those places where you have the party and the do a bounce house. If i couldn't afford to have the whole party there i would have the party at my house and bring everyone there.
Just keep in mind she's not going to remember the party. Make it something that photos well...lol Good luck

Hi - Whenever I plan a birthday party I go to birthdaypartyideas.com because they have every theme you could think of. It's basically a website of moms like us writing about what they did for their kids parties. It's really cool and full of ideas for every budget. They even categorize them by age which makes it easier to decide which you will scan for ideas. I recently did a party for my 1yr old daughter based on one of her favorite books (one she sits still for, lol) it was "Very Hungry Caterpillar". I thought that the life cycle of a butterfly is very similar to a child's so it fit her perfectly. If you want details let me know. Good Luck & God Bless Your Baby Girl!

While we don't celebrate birthdays, I have an idea for a party. We have a pool party over winter break. Check out your local Park and Rec site, for Anne Arundel it's http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks . Ice skiating is something fun that we do in the summertime for a party.

I'm also an Ashburn Mom, and I did my duaghter's first birthday last February. I did a penguin theme - black, white, and pink decorations. I deoorated with wite tissue paper pom-poms that looked like snowballs, white tulle and ribbon, mittens, stuffed animals, and balloons. I made an igloo cake using a pan from Williams Sonoma with white icing and sprinkled powdered sugar and made chocolate penguins from chocolate molds I bought online. You could probably also do some fun stuff with ice cream. Instead of party hats, I asked people to wear brightly colored scarves. It was really really cute!

When my oldest was two, we did an Old MacDonald party with picnic food and "animal feed" (chex mix), bandanas, a red barn cake, and horse/cow/pig stuffed animals. It was a lot of fun.

Have a tea party. Have the kids dress up or even have a pirate party were she is the princess if they are boys going to the party. Good luck.

Hi

2 is still a bit young for her to have a theme that she really loves , but for future party's you could do a princess theme...have the girls dress in a princess costume , they can have a tea party and you could have another mom helper do there hair or paint there nails , or you could have some crafts set up like decorating a picture frame and then take a picture of each of the children for them to put inside the frame they decorated.

Good luck , winter birthday's are hard , my daughter is end of December and being so close to Christmas just adds to the chaos!

Hi M.,

My 3 y/o also has a Feb birthday, and we are always at a loss for what to do since we are limited to the "indoors." Her first birthday was literally snowed out. 2nd birthday, she was very into Elmo and Sesame Street so everything was in primary colors. It was more of an adult party with a kid theme since she didn't have a lot of friends of her own at that point. For her 3rd birthday, though, she chose Fairies. We decorated the house with little white lights and moved plants from the sunroom around the living and dining rooms to make a fairy garden. We had fairy coloring pages, and fairy dust (pixie sticks) for the kids. She chose which friends from school to invite and we had abt 7 kids. The non-fairy, but make the party work part, was the Tumblebus. They come to your house in a converted school bus (made into a toddler gym) and take the kids out for an hour of fun and games. They all LOVED it, and it made the party managable for our small house since they finished with the bus, had cake and ice cream, opened presents, and left after playing for abt 20-30min.
