Hi Moms - we're moving and need to possibly get 2nd floor escape ladders for the new owners. We have 1, but we only have one kid.

Which do you recommend for best use and value? I want to find the ones that you can use more than once so you can practice. There's one at homedepot.com, but it's a single use - I guess it doesn't fold back up nicely...

Thanks for your help!

I have escape ladders for my second and third floor. Bought them online from a Company called First Alert.

I have escape ladders in each upstairs bedroom. Mine are reusable by "First Alert", about $25 each, on sale at Target. I got them a few years ago. We have practiced with them by taking them out of the box and hanging them over the window sill to make sure they fit, hook on properly and that my kids know what to do. But I didn't have them actually climb out the window and down, mostly because I'm afraid of heights and didn't want to go first! But at least the ladders are in there and in working order if and when we need them.

Sears and AMazon sell them online $30 - $50.
We just bough a two story home, that's what we got.

I'm guessing you're wanting a ladder that attaches to the house. You have one attached now which means you have to leave it with the house.

I've seen ladders like this in the magazines that are on the airplane. Skymall is the magazine and I think you can access it online as well.

Just curious... are your new buyers requesting that you pay for this? That does not seem fair to me but of course, I would "get it" if you had ladders that were broken or not usable but asking for that perk is a little much. I understand doing what you can to not let a deal fall through.

Good luck.

for me, this is not an area to try to save $. Pick the sturdiest ladder around & keep one at both ends of your upstairs.

Both my Mom & my Sis have upper levels....& both own ladders. Don't know the names- since we picked some of these almost 25 years ago. :)

I would have the same reservations as TF Plano/Allen...what if the ladder you get doesn't hold up in an emergency or someone gets hurt just playing around on it? I would decline this item on your contract and state you can't be responsible for their safety should the ladder be defective for any reason.
