Hello J.,
I have had the 1994 SL2 Awesome car, it was a stick shift and had performance tires, it rode like it was on rails! We were rear ended while at a complete stop at a red light late November 2001 by a full size Ford Expedition, the driver never applied his breaks. Our Daughter (then, just turned 7) and our Son (then 3 1/2 months) were asleep in the back seat. Our rear bumper was pushed under the car, the trunk crumpled, and our front seat were ripped out from the floor of the car. The car seats with our children were slightly misaligned, but intact, after the wreck, but thank God the kids were fine. I had a seat belt injury and my husband received 2 disk injuries. We walked away...the State Trooper said that we were lucky and if we had been in another car of that size we would not be so lucky. We were hit at an estimated 40 mph. We of course went to the hosp. (one was across the street) our Saturn was a total loss only because the damage to the front seats put us over the allowance. I now own a 2002 SC Coupe, LOVE it! No problems, knock on wood! My sister Jenn has a 2001 L series, she loves it and professes to "drive it into the ground." We are both professional women and could afford a "better" car, but nothing beats getting your insp. done and having nothing to fix. The only complaint I would have about the two models I have owned/own is that I do not like the seat comfort. My sister's L series has better seats in terms of comfort. Another downside is that they do not hold value. This is a work horse car, in for the long haul. And Ps. I bought both of mine used and never looked back.

well i know friends of mine each have a saturn and before that they had them too - so they are good - HOWEVER your friend is looking at a car that is 8-9 years old - so honestly they have to think of that logistical fact - and that even though its agreat car every car gets "less great" as time goes by. Secondly - before you buy any used car - especially one that old - you should go to carfax.com and get a report (as per the VIN#) of any/all accidents etc on that car -

also somewhere - and i would have to think about it - but somewhere you should be able to get a listing of any/all recalls on that car.

And finally ask to see a "maintenence" schedule for that previous owner so you can make sure that the oil has been changed when it should be etc....

hope that helps!

I do not have the L series....but I am compelled to tell you my story anyhow. I bought my Saturn in 1995 it was an SL1. I had a string of bad luck with cars and bought it brand new. Drove it up until this July (13 YEARS!!!!!) and traded it for my mom's Saturn SL2 which was the same year but only had 60,000. miles on it. When we traded mine it had 180,00 miles on it and they still got 870.00 for it. I was amazed. And the funniest part is it still ran great we were scared to get rid of it. But we thought it crazy not to take my mom's with less than half the miles. Also, they get INCREDIBLE gas milage. My first got an insane 37 miles per gallon on the high way. My mom only gets about 34 because she has the bigger engine in hers. Yes when they are older they tend to get a little noisey. But they are super safe with the steel cage and for a commuter car they can not be beat. So I tell your friend, go for it and I hope she has the same great luck I did. But with buying a used car, you never know for sure how the previous owner treated it. (Unless it was you mom
;-) )

Hi! Over the last 15 years, we owned 2 Saturns & LOVED them! The only reason we traded the last one in (after 5 years) was because we needed a minivan!

This isn't the exact model you asked about, but I have either a 2001 or 2002 L2 and it is fantastic - we've had very little trouble with it all these years and the quantity of standard features is awesome. I would definitely buy another Saturn! :-)

I don't know, myself, but check out cartalk.com It's put out by a couple of guys from Boston (guys, being men in their 40's or 50's by now) who REALLY know cars. They have a weekly show on public radio, called, "car talk" (duh). It's really fun to listen to, because they make almost everything a joke, but people call in with questions about the cars the need to fix, or about rattles and noises, and they get help (after they get ridiculed along the way). Anyway, the website it good, and I like it better than trying to read thru consumer reports.

I'll be the dissenting vote. I had a Saturn and I hated it. Left it for my husband to drive who didn't seem to mind that the car was noisy, or that it didn't handle all that well, IMO. It was ok, but not great. We had ours for 8 years. Hubby put a lot of miles on it, so I guess we got our money's worth out of it.

I have a saturn L2 and love it. It is so good with gas. Very safe. It has child locks on the doors and windows. It is the best car I have owned to date. The only con I have is the trunk is a little small. I have a double stroller. I think any trunk will be small lol. Hope that helps.

I think Saturn is great for sedans (I had an SL2 in the early 2000). I loved it and traded it in for the Saturn Vue when we had a baby. Tons of computer/electrical glitches - even shut off on me while I was driving and pregnant with our second child. I'm now driving a GMC envoy.

J.,
I don't know much about the 2000 Saturn but I had a 1995 Saturn back in the late 90's and it was the most efficent reliable car I ever owned. My hubby works for Ford so now that is what I drive. But Saturn is so very economical and efficent.

I love my saturn. It is a great car. I have the 2002 SL2 but I have also had an SL1. They are great cars and if it is in good condition I would definately go for it. I'm dreading the day I need to replace it. Hopefully, I'll just be able to buy another saturn.
