My 2 yr old has little bumps on her arms and legs some of them are white almost "zit-like" . I have seen this before on kids and toddlers . I've been told by people its from dry skin. It is worse on her arms then legs. Does anyone know what this could be, and how I can treat it? She has had it for a few months and if I could avoid taking her to the Dr. that would be wonderful!! thanks

What can I do next?

It's what some would call milk bumps. Both my boys have it. The pedi didn't say that it had anything to do with dry skin. Their doctor gave us a cream medicine for it. My oldest had a few on his chest and still has them on the back of his arms. The youngest on his chest and around his underarm area. I was told they eventually go away and have found this to be true. Hope this helps.

I just wanted to let you know that it could be just a skin rash/allergies or it could be the warts, which is also known as molliscum. Warts are a virus. So if it is that treat it like one. Wash her clothes, bed sheets, towels etc. They are not contagious unless they are oozing. Yuck! My daughter never oozed they just dried up and went away.

It sounds like the same stuff I have had and my boys have had. They say it is Sun posioning, but I have always treated it like it is dry skin. The little bumps are ingrown hairs, and the skin is to dry to let the hair pop out, when you see one that looks like a Zit it could be her immune system telling her body something is wrong. Try a real good lotion for a couple of days to see if this helps. Remember to apply the lotion after a cool to warm bath (never hot). Lotion only holds in moisture, it doesn't cure on its own, you have to soak up the water first. (Alot of people don't know this)

Hopes this helps, if not could be a rash, I would take her to the doctor.

Both of my children have very dry skin(eczema). My son has the bumps on his arms and legs, however they are not white at all, they just feel like rough skin. So it may be something else. This is what we do for our dry skin:

My son (3) and daughter (18 months) both have eczema. Our dermatologist has recommended Cetaphyl soap (or Dove bar soap) and Cetaphyl cream. You can buy it at the drug store or in the cosmetics section of Wal-Mart. It is fairly expensive (about $8 for the soap and $14 dollars for a big container of cream) but it really works better than anything else. Alot of the other lotion products out there contain alcohol and really just dry out the skin more.

My daughter has very severe eczema so she also has a prescripton steroid cream to put on red rashy spots behind her knees and elbows and sometimes on her fingers and knees. I just used hydrocortisone cream (recommended by our pediatrician) on my son when he was her age because his rashy spots were not as severe as hers.

I would still suggest you check with your pediatrician though because alot of times kids with eczema have alot of allergies also. Sometimes if the eczema is really bad they need to go through a round of antibiotics also. Hope this helps.

I have two boys and one daughter and only the girl has these pimples on her arms. I've always attributed it to female hormones and her oily skin. When she was your daughter's age I would pop or squeeze them but I don't even bother with them now. It's certainly nothing I would take her to a doctor for.

It sounds like Molluscum Contagium. My son has the same little bumps that just appeared one day, so I took him to the dr. and that's what they said it was. It's a virus that's pretty common among children, and I was told that they can last from 3 months up to 2 years. There's not much you can do about it except go to the dermatologist and burn them off. So I decided that they're not bad enough to do that, and some of them have already gone away. They don't seem to bother him at all. Hope that helps!!

Eczema is very common with kids these days my daughter has it too. Theres creame at Walmart that will take care of it & its very gentle you'll find it over in the lotion area of the store its around 3 or 4 dollars but it helps. But now if your child acts as if the bumps start to itch then you might have to use a alergy med to help cut down the itching from the inside to help the outside stop itching and your child might have to go to meds like Clartin or Zertec later when thier older for eczema does stay with a child up into their teens or even older. I use to have it but Ive grown out of the problem but my daughter is now 15 & she still has her flare ups every now & then. But if that simple lotion doesn't help I would call a nurse help line for free info on what else you could do to set your mind at ease.

Many times little white bumps are a sign of an allergic reaction to either animal by-products in your soaps and lotions (like lanolin) or to chemical dyes and fragrances in them. If you would like I could send you a sample of Arbonne's soaps and lotions formulated for babies and children...we are formulated without any of these irritating ingredients.

You already have a list of suggested lotions, soaps and helpful links so I'm just adding that since you are new in town, your child has the right to have medical insurance not cost to you. Visit your closest DHS office and apply for medicare/sooner care for children and pregnant women. Maybe with your efforts and God's help, this skin condition will improve but your child needs regular doctor follow up visits.
I wonder if she developed the condition here in OK? Weather changes and the OK pollution in the air might trigger reactions like that.
Hope all works out for the best!
God bless you, R.

THEY DID NOT HURT OR ITCH BUT WERE BOTHERSOME. WE WERE SENT TO A DERMATOLOGIST AND SHE USED BUG JUICE(REAL NAME)! LET ME SAY THIS WAS HORRIBLE FOR HIM. My nephew has this (or what sounds like this) and it is form of eczema. BUT DON"T SCRUB or POP them! the doc told my sister that you risk scarring that way. I would try the cetaphil cream in the tub, and wash him the cetaphil soap. It's great for eczema (used by my nephew and my daughter). If that doesn't work there is a prescription, but since he's not self-conscious about them, I'd skip it until absolutely necessary.
Good luck!
Oh, and Aveeno oatmeal or Burt's Bees buttermilk bath powder also help!

It doesnt totally go away until they get older, I had it also as a child but back then the doc told my momto pop them, lol. ill that is gross.....

My 2 year old has it, as well as my 1 year old, as do I. About 5-6 years ago I went to the dermatologist to find out what it is and what I can do about it. I was told that it is Keratosis Pilaris (you can google it). He put me on a regimin of Retin-A and a hydrating cream (because the retin-a is so drying) I had to stop when I got pregnant and nursing - I havent't been on it since. My youngest daughter has it on her cheeks as well. I don't think kids as young as yours and mine can be on Retin-A. It is harmless and painless, just not too appealing. It is my opinion that is it herititary. My dad has it and my brother and me and my 2 girls. Maybe it isn't. If you take her to the doc they might have something to treat it for someone her age.

It could be a sensitivity to lotion that you might be using on her. Our daughter has always had sensitive skin and we had to switch to Lubriderm when she was little to stop her from breaking out. It a little more expensive than the other lotions but it really is nice and creamy and lasts for a long time. She might also have eckzema (spelling?) which takes a rx creme. We get a huge tube from our drs. prescription that costs $10. Just make sure hers doesn't worsen and cause any type of skin infection.

Raised pumps surronunding the hair folicas on the arms and legs is Keratosis Pilaris. sometimes the bumps are whits and or red. My daughter has this condition from time to time and is affected by her in take of dairy products. A good loofah scrub helps keep this condition under control. My daughters has gotten drastically better over the years.

I used to have this and my daughter had it as well and we actually found something that got rid of them. We scrubbed our arms daily with the St. Ives Apriot Scrub and we had dramatic results.

Here is some info on Keratosis Pilaris. This article states that exfoliation can help the problem and I guess that is what the scrub did.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris

This is the one that we use and I start using it whenever I notice the bumps and after a few days they are gone. If I remember to use it 2-3 days a week the bumps don't even come back.

I would definitely check with your doctor before trying this on a two year old. I have passed this "remedy" on to several friends and they all had the same success with this product. You can purchase it at Wal-Mart in the health and beauty aisle next to the facial scrubs.

Good luck!

Hi!

Like one other responder suggested, you might research Molluscum Contagiosum. If you think this is what your daughter has, I have found a natural remedy from the website www.amoils.com called Heal Molluscum. I do not represent this company in any way, just am currently using this product on one of my children. My son has this and initially we went to the Dr. and the "warts" were frozen off with dry ice and it was painful, so I began looking for a more natural method and this is not painful, but the oil does not smell the greatest.

Hope this helps!

My guess would be that it is a skin syndrome similar to excema...It's called KP or (keratosis pilaris) and it's caused by the skin not sloughing away quickly enough near a hair folical and then creating a cyst or white-head. Your best treatment will be to wash using only cetaphil cleanser or something for sinsitive skin and to mix ultra healing Eucerin (it has alpha hydroxy acid in it to gently slough dead skin cells) lotion with hydrocortizone 1% percent creams in equal parts and coat her in it twice a day on the affected areas.

On myself I use nutrogena body scrub to slough the skin then I use my lotion mixture.

For the lotion I use hydrocortizone CREAM and put it in a small travel size bottle and fill it halfway, then I put the lotion in on top and mix with a plastic knife or handle end of a spoon until it looks mixed well. Then I use it on a daily basis...I have three or four bottles of it...one in my car, one in my husbands, one in the bathroom and one in our travel stuff...I always have one handy, and since it has hydrocortizone in it it's good for bug bites and sunburns too.

I have it on my thighs (front and back) and on my forearms near my elbows. My daughter however has it over her entire back, the backs of her thighs and her face. It is sometimes called "chicken skin" disease because it can cause the skin to look like chicken with the skin on would.

I would try some other tips at http://www.helpforkp.com

Hello A., I'm not sure about "white" bumps, but my 9yr old daughter & I have "somewhat noticeable" bumps on our knees, elbows and thighs. We've been to dermatologists and what we have are dry &/or sweat skin condition. They don't itch, but are just a nuisance. The Rx lotions I've used in the past really haven't worked & are expensive. I would ask a pediatrician first & if they aren't worried & they don't bother her or you.... just try & live with them and use a moisturizer, that's what we do. :)
Good Luck & God Bless, C. C

I was told it is cerebric (not sure of spelling) dermititis, my daughter has had it her whole life, she's 3 1/2. She never had the soft sweet baby skin my second daughter has. There's not much I can do about it, it's really bad on her upper arms, we put Aveeno baby cream on her and she always says "that's better" but she doesn't ever complain about it bothering her. You might talk to her Dr at her next appt. It may or may not be the same thing.

Hi,
I agree with Michelle K that it could be KP. I have had KP since i was a child to varying degrees mostly on my upper arms, but also on my face (cheeks and neck) and upper thighs. It was really bad after i had my baby and it is slowly getting better. When u research it you will find that it is harmless and mostly a cosmetic issue. I agree with the tips that she gave and have used a hydroxy acid from Paula's Choice that helps if i use it daily. I know when i was small my mom used cetaphil and phisoderm on us....not sure about the phisoderm but i know cetaphil is still great.
Good Luck!

Could it be excema (sorry if that is misspelled)? My daughter, who is now 5 years old had bumps that appeared on her shoulder and it was diagnosed as excema. It didn't itch or anything, but it was in a cluster and sort of had a "zit like" appearance. The doctor prescribed Elocon cream. I put it on every night after her bath and it keeps it cleared up. It does seem to show up more during the hotter months. Hope this helps.

A., My name is K. S and I understand how you feel about your baby. I do know that alot of products that we use such as lotions, soaps, etc are loaded with animal-by products, chemicals and mineral oil. All of these ingredients cause skin irritations and dry skin.
