I completely understand where you are coming from. I also had the same dilema when my youngest son turned 1. One of the things that I did do was have a bubble gum blowing contest. I included all the older kids & the adults & the kids loved seeing the adults do it more than anything. All you do is divide the people into 2 groups, equal number of adults & kids on each team & then give them all 1 piece of bubble gum & then have the first 2 blow bubbles & see who has the biggest & continue till you have only 2 people left & then let them "Face Off" & then you will have your winner. It might take a little bit if you have a large group coming, but the older kids enjoyed this one. Good luck & Happy Birthday to your 1 yr old.

I would have balls, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. They are inexpensive and fun no matter the weather.
A piñata is also fun.

The weather ight still be warm or it might be beginning to cool down by then - who ever knows in this state, right?! :-)

Have you thought about getting a bounce house for the older kids? You can rent them for about $100 and that will include the people setting it up for you and coming to get it.

Hopefully it will be warm enough for some water activities though!! Have fun and good luck!

My daughter turned one the second weekend in October last year, and I also had a party at a park. The weather ended up being really hot and I was thankful we had the shade from the pavilion! I didn't have older kids, so I didn't plan events for them. You may want to check with the park to find out their policies and if they allow things like a pool, slip-n-slide or a bounce house. For only two hours, that seems like a lot of extra work and trouble to me. :) I would second the idea of other little games and activities that will hold their attentions better.

Awww... I love your "a little about me" section. You seem like you would be nice people to be friends with. :) The weather is so unpredictable... but I distinctly remember Oct getting cold early, and then it seems to either warm up a little until Dec or maybe I just get used to the cold. Either way, I think it will be too cold for water activities. How old are the older kids? Young enough for races and games? Preteen and more interested in boys/girls? Does the park have accomodations, such as a play ground, bikeing/skating area, or basketball? If you would like to give me some feedback, I will be thinking about what things you can do. I also remember trying to accomodate everyone at all the parties we have had and it is impossible... So try not to stress too much!! ;)
