Hi mamas!

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second child. I had my first over 3 years ago and I just can't remember when I started feeling regular movements with him. I know definitely by 20 weeks, but I'm not sure how soon before that it happened. I know they say it happens quicker the second time around and they also say it happens quicker if you're on the thin side (I was a size 0 pre-pregnancy). I am starting to worry. I have thought that I felt the baby here and there since about 15 weeks. But it is very fleeting and there will be several days in between the "movements." So that makes me wonder if it's even the baby that I feel. I just wanted to hear from other mamas when you felt movements. Thank you for any feedback!

So What Happened?

Thanks mamas! I feel much better. I will not worry about it. I'm sure I'll feel my baby move in the next couple of weeks. I have my ultrasound next Thursday.

I am 19 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I am also very thin (or I was pre-pregnancy) and I just recently started feeling my baby move. I know they say you will feel it earlier and earlier... but that was not the case with me. My first two I felt around 20 weeks and the movements were very strong and distinct. With this one, the movements are so soft/light that sometimes I question if it's my baby or not.... but I've felt it enough the last few days to know that I am in fact feeling it. My first two were boys and this one is a girl. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with why the movements are so light, but I like to think so. ;) I was told by my doctor not to worry unless I am not feeling movements by week 22. I would give it a little more time... you will start feeling him/her in the next couple of weeks. Also, you probably have your 19/20 week ultrasound coming up and I am sure seeing your little one move on the monitor will make you feel better. Take care.

Feeling movement depends on a LOT of variables-- the position of the baby, the position of the placenta, your position at the moment, whether the little one is a soccer player or a couch potato, and whether or not your schedules and the babies mesh-- for you to feel the movement it has to happen while your awake and paying attention! If you have a baby who gives a few lazy kicks against the placenta while your sleeping your not going to feel as much as if you have a soccer player who works out against a sensitive spot while your sitting down paying attention!

For the longest time when I was pregnant I could only feel him move when I was on my stomach or hands and knees so your position effects it too!

Hi J.,
I too was worried when I was expecting with my daughter. The doctor said you can usually feel movement around 20 weeks, and I was just sick that I didn't feel anything. I think I was like 20 weeks and 1 day, and then I finally felt her move!

I'm sure in just a couple more weeks you will be feeling your little one moving all around!

Best wishes to you and congrats on #2 !

I was over 20 weeks when I felt my the first movements from baby #1. I wouldn't worry as long as everything is normal at your OB appointments. You have plenty of time!

You are just about there... you should start feeling little flutterings any time now. At 18 weeks the embryo is probably only about the size of your pinky, its hangin out in all that water and is insulated ... you'll start feeling it soon tho. Do you own a stethiscope? I bought one just so I could listen to the heart beat at home myself. It sounded like a little hummingbird, so quick ;)

I didn't feel movement till around the 20 week mark with both of my pregnancies. I was getting a little worried with my second as everyone told me I would feel it earlier, but I didn't. Don't worry, in a few months you are going to be cursing those teeny little feet jammed into your ribs! LOL!

I can't say that I was able to pinpoint a " thats the baby" movement with all 4 of mine until after 5 months... If your worried about it then call your doctor...
