14 Month Old Putting Food in Her Ear! Normal?

Hi moms,

My 14 month old daughter has really taken a liking to putting her food in her ear. She will also rub it into her eye. Unfortunately, she is not the type of child who lets you feed her. She never had pureed foods (strong gag reflex made it impossible) so at 10 months she moved straight to finger foods. She has been great at getting the food into her mouth (when not having fun throwing it everywhere) but this sticking food into her ear thing is new. Is it an age issue that she will outgrow? Thanks moms!

What can I do next?

Mmmm my kids never put it in there ears , does she actually take the food and put it in her ear or is she rubbing her ear and the foods goes in? Perhaps her ear is bothering her , some dry skin inside maybe? All my kids would rub their eyes when they had food on their hands and get it in the eyes but this is normal for little ones to do. I also have a friend who's son put some carrot up his nose when he was 2 and she had to take him to ER to get it removed!!!

My daughter just started doing it and she is 15 months old. I agree with telling her no and if she keeps it up, remove the food from her tray. I tried ignoring it (since sometimes if you make a big deal they will do it again for the reaction), but she continued to do it.

Unfortunately, it is totally normal! Just be firm with her and each time she does it, tell her no and take her hand away from her. If she continues to do it, take the food away. Maybe she's full and no longer hungry. My son did it occasionally too.
