My husband and I LOVED the Bonneville Hot Springs, but were disappointed in the Skamania Lodge. We also stayed at the McMennamins Grand Lodge and had a grea time, and at the Inn at The Beach which was just terrific. Have fun!
What is your favorite destination for a getaway? I'm looking for something within 2 hours of Portland, cozy, quiet, clean accommodations? We haven't been away in 10+ years Yikes! We would really appreciate any tips.
We ended up with a 1 bedroom suite at the Ester Lee in Lincoln City.. Not posh at all but clean, in the budget and spectacular views. Also, they had a room available which many places didn't because out stay was falling over president's day weekend. Thanks for all the ideas! We hope to take more trips in the future and will try a couple places you ladies mentioned. Thanks!

I am a couple of days behind on my mamasource so I apologize for the late response.
Bonneville Hot Springs is great, with our without kids.
Any of the Mcmenamins hotels are great, fun places to stay. We have been to Edgefiled in Troutdale, the one in forest grove, the one in olympia (really neat, very old!) and kennedy school. We haven't quite made it to the Oregon Hotel in McMinnville (or is it Newberg) yet. But plan to. The Mcmenamins have all sorts of different things to do. Artwalks, spas, movies, billiard rooms, restaurants, live entertainment. They offer so much and all of their locations are so unique.
Have a great get-away!
If we're just looking for a over night trip we've gone to both Bonneville Hot Springs Resort, and Skamania Lodge they are both very nice places -- quiet and relaxing for us. We've not been away from the kids more than 1 night so far, but would go to Cannon Beach if we were planning a trip for a couple of days.
We're also planning a trip to McMennimins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove in a couple of weeks. We think it will be a fun night, dinner, movie, and a quiet room. Also, as a "winter" trip it's very convienent, in the event of snow or something.

Stephanie Inn at Canon Beach- AWSOME rooms very romantic- no kids allowed. Its a little pricey but well worth it for a romantic getaway.
I would go to the beach. Seaside, Cape Meares, Rockaway, Tillamook, and Cannon Beach are just a few off the top of my head that are under two hours drive from Portland. Pretty much any major hotel is nice and you can't beat relaxing near the ocean:) You could even rent a little cottage for relatively cheap. Or, you could go to Breiten Bush Hot Springs. They have really nice accommodations, from private rooms/cottages to dorm style rooms, and the hot springs and forest are fantastic. It is also about a two hour drive.
Have a good trip, let us know where you went:)
For our weekend getaways, we usually go to the beach. We've really enjoyed Manzanita and Seaside.
We also spent a weekend in Hood River that was really fun. We stayed right in the downtown area (not sure I would recommended the hotel), but there were lots of fun shops, cafes, and a movie theater all in walking distance. We also did a drive through the country, sampling the produce and did a little wine tasting.
Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Wa, is amazing. Very quiet and cozy. Really great place. And they have a great golf course too, if you like golf. And they have spa treatments available too.

Enjoy your getaway...whatever you do!! It is surely time for one:-)
Hi J.,
I have to say the Stephanie Inn at Cannon beach is the nicest, best place I have ever stayed, anywhere! It is expensive, so we go for one night instead of two, but it is amazing!
If you can't afford them, we stayed in Lincoln City at the Starfish Manor and it was pretty nice, too. They even have in room jacuzzi tubs that overlook the ocean (they are kind of small, though).
Have fun!
the edgefield in troutdale is cool. They have a lagoon sooking tub- very relaxing.
I second the hood river idea.
