Hello...I am wondering if anyone here has their kids in Yoga classes. I was wondering how safe it was and what are the benefits that you have seen from the classes.

Universal Spirit Yoga in Naperville has a terrific set of classes that my friends have their children in. Children sleep better at night, have higher self esteem, understand how to calm themselves on a "bad day", are able to be more focused at school. Details are at www.universalspirityoga.com
For the really little ones, the parent and child both do the yoga together...also one class where teen and parent can do the yoga together.

Grayslake has a studio called Praire Sunshine Yoga , they have classes just for kids there too.
My daughter took at yoga class at 3 and loved it. It involved some basic yoga moves, stories, and meditation. She really enjoyed it, but wanted to move on to gymnastics this year. I guess it depends on the age and class, but she had fun.
All K-2 students at our school take weekly yoga classes. This is the second year of the program. The teachers, the parents, the students, and the yoga instructor love the yoga class. The benefits are numerous starting with brain researched factors such as daily movement, interactions, rhythm and motion activites, all of which support addressing multiple intelligences. Yoga contributes to greater student success in the classroom.
We recently released a yoga video that is great for parents and toddlers - and the parent section continues to work even when your children are no longer toddlers, or before they reach it.
It is called TOT YOGA and you can find it online at http://totyoga.com and amazon.com or at retailers in NY and DC.
One of my friend's friends is a Certified YogaKids Facilitator. She is passionate about the benefits of yoga for kids. She would be a great person to ask! I have included a link to the location that she works...Her last name is "Collins" under "Meet our Staff". This yoga facility is in Palos Park but may be helpful for you to just get advise, if it's too far to go. Good luck!
My 3 yr old attends daycare and there, they have a yoga session once a week. She loves it and allows her to practice her flexibility and balance. She comes home showing me the poses they try. If it is allowed to be done at a certified, well-known and respected daycare, it certainly is safe, as long as it is age appropriate.
Yoga is amazing for children! My son who went to a special needs school did it when he was four. He loved it. The lessons are planned especially for their needs. It helps them focus, have better balance and coordination and relaxes them. Definitely give it a try.
