My almost 5 month old son just spit up something yellow. It was mixed with white spit up, and looked like egg yolk. My son is exclusively breast fed, so all I can guess is that it was maybe bile? Is that normal? He isn't sick, he didn't projectile vomit, and he seemed fine--no crying, etc.
Thanks for the responses so far. I had forgotten to add that I knew it wasn't mucous, because it absorbed quickly into his bib with the rest of the spit up, and now looks like a yellow mustard stain. I don't think mucous would do that. It tends to stay the same, globby gross texture and dries like a booger.
It was probably mucus or some other stomach goo.
I wouldn't worry but keep and eye on how he is feeling. Proceed as normal!

Bile is typically green or dark yellowish brown in color.
Sounds like mucous not bile. I would watch him and track stools and such.

Sounds like mucous. This is the first time it's happened. No need to be concerned. If this were to continue and he would have other symptoms such as being cranky, having a fever, vomiting, breaking out in a rash, etc. then it would be time to talk with his doctor.
This is normal and I urge you to not be concerned or even focused on watching for it. This has happened to me, my daughter, and now my grandchildren. We usually have a cold or are congested from allergies but not always.
If it would help you be more relaxed, call the advice nurse at your pediatrician's office or the hospital.
