My daughter was wearing size 4 at 12 months, but she is 17 months now, and is already a 5 1/2. So to be safe, I'd buy size 5's. If they don't fit her yet, they will soon enough!
Hello:) Can somebody tell me what size in shoes was your baby girl wearing at 12 months. I have found a great deal on the "best shoes ever made"(preschoolians:)) on ebay and want to get it for my friend's daughter for her 1 st b-DAY(next month). Baby started walking at 9 months and still does not have any shoes. Mom is just not a shoes type a girl:)I aksed to measure the foot, but my friend just very forgetful.I can't really compare to my boys since our 19 months old already wears size 8 in shoes(and so does his 3 year old girl cousin:))Any ideas would be apreciated.

I agree with the posts advising against this type of gift. My daughter was 5-6, I don't remember exactly. She's 17 months now and size 7. Seems like bigger than other moms mentioned.
In either case I am also a believer of natural foot development. As a humar race we don't need shoes to help us learn to walk, we need to learn to walk properly first and then get shoes to protect our feet from the rugged surfaces. My daughter started walking at 11 months so of course she had shoes for outdoors but they were Pedipeds with a leather sole, they're almost like socks in a shape of shoe. She's still wearing them now even though the next size up is with a flex sole.
I think this mom might appreciate Robeez or Pedipeds that are known for soft sole and natural foot development. Getting her a gift certificate to one of these brands might be a better idea if you're still set on shoes.

I'd guess somewhere between two and five. Four is usually a safe bet. Some moms are of the belief that babies shouldn't wear shoes before age one. This helps with walking and balance. They're not road-marching so shoes shouldn't be necessary before one. It's a very nice and thoughtful first birthday gift.
If your friend is not a "shoe" person, I applaud her. You should keep baby barefoot as long as possible so as not to impose outside force on the natural development of the foot. Respect your friend's attitude towards shoes, get the baby something else. Besides, when they do start wearing shoes, they really need to be properly measured, so it's really not a great gift to buy, just let the child's family handle that department.
Hi L.,
My daughter is 11-Months-Old and a size 3 fits her perfectly. So I'd go with size 4.
Good Luck!

Hi L.,
I'm due with my first child in October, so I can't tell you about my own child... but I still think you shouldn't buy them. My friend at work has a baby girl with larger than normal feet for her age, while my other friend's baby (now 2) was born with very tiny feet, even though she was very tall. They eventually grew to fit her body, but my guess is that every child is different. Because you can't return or exchange on Ebay, I think it's best to buy where they can exchange it for a better size, even a website return. Good luck!
My daughter was a 4 in US sizes and a 19 in European sizes.

My daughter wore a size 4 when she was 12 months old. She is 2 and wheres a 6 now. It really all depends because every baby is different. They do have shoes that run by months like 12-18 months. Maybe thats the best way to go.
You really can't get shoes for a baby without measuring and having the baby there to try them on when you buy them. It is bad for developing feet to be in ill-fitting shoes, so I would not buy them at all.
