P.W.
I don't think I would do it unless I was really in need of the money badly. I would not want to advertise for something unless I really believed in its value though.
There is a company that awards specific products for each specific campaign. The people have to agree to drive so many miles per month. In a nutshell, you would drive around with a particular company's ad on your rear window for, on average, 3 months. The ad is essentially translucent from the inside view of vehicle so view is urn obstructed. The award might be valued at anywhere between 125 -200 dollars. It could be food at a fast food joint, a couple tickets to an amusement park, a gas card, but the awards are not cash. Would you do this? Would you be embarrassed at all--having an ad on your rear window?
ETA: mileage is what I would drive anyway. Tickets are full price, regular tickets, never expire and good anytime. Products advertised are all "family friendly". It's not a scam and is done via a very reputable company. It is a totally family approved company and the products are for things like sub shops, kids summer camps, private colleges, stuff like that.
I don't think I would do it unless I was really in need of the money badly. I would not want to advertise for something unless I really believed in its value though.
No I would not do it. The awards do not seem worth it. I don't want free fast food, tickets to some amusement park I do not want to go to, some summer camp we don't care to use. Waste of time imo.
Nope! I wouldn't even put a bumper sticker on my car. I think it looks tacky. BUT, I do love to read them and crack up quite frequently when I do. But even if I did, I most definitely would not fill my whole back window up with an ad. And getting anything other than money to do it - no way!
I would not not be embarrassed, but I also would not do it.
I have worked with a company who paid me a certain amount, to put their advertisement on my back window. BUT, I did not have to drive a certain amount. I was paid for allowing them to do that, AND I was paid with a check...and taxes were taken out. I also felt strongly about their stores, and wholeheartedly endorsed them. My advertisement was for ONE local store, not rotating businesses or services.
The set up you're talking about it ridiculous.
I would do it for straight cash, but not for some nebulous award.
I don't think I'd be embarrassed but I don't know that I would do it. Seems like it would just add to the visual noise that I'm so tired of......Wouldn't think less of anyone for doing it though, if they get something cool from it, great!
No. I hate being advertised to. There is very little left in life that isn't plastered with ads. I don't want to contribute to that.
And by the way, when you say "food at a fast food joint" or tickets to an amusement park, are they really free tickets? Or are they deals where you buy two tickets and get two free? Because to me, that's just a scam to get you to buy more...
Based on your ETA: Still wouldn't do it. Just not for me.
No I would not be embarrassed but I would question the compensation.
Marketing and advertising are huge expenses for businesses. If they are getting you to advertise for an average of 3 MONTHS for only $125-200, they are making out like bandits. $200.00 isn't even a drop in the bucket, and if they are compensating with non-cash items, those items may have been free for the company to acquire so they essentially pay nothing and are reaching countless consumers through your car ad.
Just think how much it would cost the company to reach that many consumers through a different outlet such as a TV or radio ad. We are talking wayyyy more than 200 bucks for 3 months.
If you feel that a $200-value ticket or gift card is worth it, then do it. Its a win-win situation. For me, I think it is worth significantly more and I would expect cash, a lot more cash.

It all depended upon what that advertisement was for.
If it was for something I supported and know about - not a problem at all.
If it was for something I did NOT support, not only no - but heck no.
There was a company that did this and they would wrap your whole car in an advertisement. You would get paid anywhere from $200 to $500 a month.
My friend considered doing this because she needed a car, and it was basically a car payment. She lived far from where she worked so she woudl be able to fulfill the mileage requirement just driving to and from work. The advertisements were pretty cool and artsy.
I would do it for cash, but I would not do it for coupons or tickets. I don't think it's a scam, but I don't think it's a very good deal for you!
Sounds like a scam to me, honestly. I would not do it.
for $200 of gasoline-hell no!
No, not embarrassed. But.... you have to agree to drive so many miles per month for unspecified awards that "might be valued" at 125-200 dollars? This smells like a scam.
No I would not do it... I do not put any decals, ads, etc on my car.
Think about it... A company pays $125-$200 in coupons, gift cards, etc (NO CASH) for advertising on YOUR car that YOU are required to drive so many miles per the agreement of the advertisor. Not only is it not worth it, you also have added wear/tear and gas expenses if you do not normally drive the number of miles specified in the contract.
Do you have a choice as to what they put in your rear window? You have to be ok with advertising for whatever they place there.... fast food joint, department store, condom store, caberet club, scummy lawyers, etc.
Advertising is very expensive and someone is making a lot of money off YOU... YOUR car...... YOUR expenses for 3 months.
Just call a regular place and ask what the going rate is for an ad... tv, newpaper, whatever and you'll see how pricey advertising is.
Clever scam targeting people who don't think before they jump into a contract. $125-$200 is nothing... Do you really want coupons as your compensation?
Smells like a rat to me.
I wouldn't do it. It's just not my thing, although I understand why other people might do it. I would only do it for my own business.
If I was starving to death and so were my kids and it was the ONLY way to earn....wait-not cash? Gas yes because if I was that broke I'd need gas money (but if I was that broke I probably wouldn't have a car...but if I had a paid off clunker I could probably use te gas$)- but tickets to amusement parks and fast food? Hell no.
Drive so many miles per month using my gas and mileage to advertise your business just to get a gas card as gift to replenish the gas I just used...uhmm, nope, wouldn't do it.
Nope - not for me. I would have no problem seeing that on someone else's windshield, but I don't need the money enough to make my car a billboard.
I would not be embarassed. If you can score something you want without doing anything hinky and by just doing what you normally do, why not?
I would not be embarrassed if it was for a product I personally would endorse.
The only company I ever considered doing this for seriously was a local, high-end jean and clothing store. They were offering a 6-month gig advertising for them via car wrap, driving your normal daily driving in return for a $300 clothing allowance at the store for the duration. That was a sweet deal! Too bad I was pregnant at the time and they didn't carry maternity clothes.
I don't think I would ever do it, but we had a customer who had a bug and advertised for jelly beans! His car looked like a giant bag of jelly beans, they apparently gave him boxes of trials size bags and he would give them to us as tips. Crazy thing is, we always got a kick out of it lol.
I guess if it doesn't cost you anything and you get a reward for it may be worth it.
I wouldn't be embarrassed, but $125-$200 doesn't seem worth it for 3 months.
A couple of years ago there was an advertisement company that would paint the front of your house with their logo and colors. Then they would pay your mortgage for 3-12 months. After, they repaint your house normally. I thought that was interesting. I heard it was a flop as a means to drum up new customers though.
nope, I wouldn't do this.
HAHA. when gas goes up really high my husband wants to do this just so they will pay for is gas and thats it. He said he doesn't care if it is tampons! he even said they could put a dispenser with free samples on his truck if it would cover his gas and a little extra.
