Would like to Start a Mother's Helper Business

I'm interested in starting a business for mom's to be and new mom's. It would be for things like helping them register for their baby shower's, setting up their nursery, helping them get ready for bringing baby home. Basically lots of support for the exciting yet stressful start of motherhood. Wondering if you think this is something mom's would be interested in?

What can I do next?

I think you may be on to something but considering the economy, would anyone actually take advantage of this type of service? If you are possibly open to exploring other business ventures, please let me know. I have something that will allow you to still help moms.

Thanks

I agree with D. N. I don't think moms-to-be need as much help as the new moms coming home from the hospital, especially the moms who already have kids. I have 4 under the age of 4 1/2 and I was looking for someone to help me when I brought home #4 in May. I really needed a Mother's Helper in my house just so I could take a shower, pay bills, etc. Lately I've wanted someone to help so I could go shopping or drive my oldest to preschool without having to load everyone in the car twice a day. I think that would be a more useful business opportunity, but that's just my opinion. Good luck!

In thsi market, Mom would need financial advice and help. I do not think they would like to spend money on the things that you mentioned. Rthaer ask their moms, relative friends and other moms.

Hope that helps!

I think this is great! Bad economy or not some people just need this help and would find a place in the budget. Especially if husbands are working etc. it would be a weight off their shoulders knowing someone is there to help.

Like the others, in this economy I don't think moms would go for it too much. However, helping new families with child care-taking the older child to the park-or helping with groceries might be good. Although, pricing would be touchy. Helping with groceries and other errands would also help elderly people, maybe even helping trips to the doctor.

It sounds good, but I think might be bad timing for sure. Most women get by with the help of their mothers, sisters, friends, etc. to get them through all that without having to hire someone. Its a start as far as thinking about what moms need, but I think you might want to think beyond. Watch Donny Deutch on , well I forget what channel he's on, but he's a pioneer in the entreprenuer world. He has a lot of good advice!

if you get some advertising in at OB/GYN offices and Babies R Us you might be able to get some people that would need this service. It seems like such a neat idea, but I don't know if it would be a business worthy one. Hmm... there should be some way to use those skills you have! Maybe you could go to libraries and give talks (they do get paid usually for that type of thing) and contact GYNs to maybe advertise your talks. Or maybe you could run it more like a tupperware party, you would go to groups of pregnant mommies and help them prepare. If you linked with child birth classes that might help. Or prenatal exercise groups.

Might be a business if you approached it as a group thing. I can see paying $10 each for a group of 10 to have you talk, but not paying you $20 for myself.

I say still go for it...while there are many who are hurting in this economy there are many who haven't been hit as hard and may just want to use this service. Think of your business plan and your products, start with a website (use a free one to start off with) but save the domain that you want at godaddy.com and definitely advertise to ob/gyn, babies r' us, libraries, MOMS Clubs, churches, etc. And see where it takes you... it's a great idea and worth looking if you feel strongly about it. Good luck!
