I'm a single mom of one, like most people I work at a dead end job without the chance for advancement. I work 12 hr shifts and everyother weekend, I HATE it and my son is suffering from my long hours too. He gets shuffled around from daycare to one family member to another. I just want to find something that would allow me to stay home, be a mom and still have the money we need to pay our bills. I feel like my son is growing up and I'm missing it. I picked my son up from daycare the other day and he told his daycare provider that he loved and gave her a hug I have to fight to get him to say that to me anymore! It's time for a change, I want me little boy back! Please somebody help...

What can I do next?

There are a lot of different options for working from home now. It just depends on what you enjoy doing. You may have to research a few different companies before you find one that you like. I went through three or four before I found one that worked for me. I've now been working from home for four years. It's totally worth it. Hope this helps!

I empathize with you. It is definitely hard, because you are the sole bread winner. If you don't work long hours, you don't get enough money and if you work long hours you miss out on your son. Could you maybe try for a job as substitute teacher, work part time. I wish I could be of more help, because I have the same worries, except I am not single. We want to be there for our children, but we also have to make a living...just here for support.

This one's going to require some soul searching on your part. Do you have any talents or craft skills that you enjoy? I know several stay at home moms that sell their wares online either on Ebay and/or Etsy. Some have switched to their own websites now that they have a customer base. Success doesn't happen overnight, but it's something that you could try out now while you are still employed. I hope you find what makes you happy :)

I don't know if you are on linkedin or facebook or that type of thing, but if there is a way for you to reach out to your friends/family/etc. to let them know that you are looking to change, I would do that. There are sites online that you can use to update your resume, review your skills, see them in new ways. That might help you figure out where your next step could be.

Is there any way you could transfer to a different department at work? Anyone you could talk to there about shifting your situation? Where did you graduate from - do they have a career office that you could take advantage of?

You might want to visit your local community college - sometimes they can offer help, information to people, even when they aren't students. Is there a family member you could stay with, where you could work a more "normal" job and contribute to the household instead of doing it all alone?

I wish I could help more. Good luck!
