D.D.
My opinion is that you need a second opinion. At least from another OB/Gyn, and even better would be a reproductive endocrinologist.
Hi Ladies...thanks for your advice, its always so appreciated.
Quick history...Oct 2013 I had surgery to remove a polyp in my uterus, after bleeding for 25 days before the surgery. Doc said give it a couple months and you will be back to "normal". Well, here we are 4 mo later and I am still messed up. I have yet to have a "normal" period. I have had 2 very LIGHT periods (or bleeding, not sure what a period is anymore!) in Nov/Dec. Then 3 days after the second light period ended (Dec 29th), I started the big momma jamma of periods. This was a motherload period (heavy heavy heavy, medium cramping, and BIG clotts that were relentless)...and lasted again for 19 days, until I started Ibuprofen (doc recomended), and it finally stopped. Then I started my next period Feb 8th...bleed 11 days and finally started ibuprofen again, and now its stopping again.
I have been to the doc...had lots of tests run. My thyriod appears low but still in the normal range. I was tested for PCOS, and doc says I am "borderline", whatever that means! He then told me to just wait another 4 months and come back to see him. I said NO WAY DOC...I am out of patience and I feel like there is something else going on here. So he said ok, well then we will just start the PCOS meds now then. So he gave me Metformin, which I havent started taking yet.
So thats why I am here, asking you ladies for your thoughts. Any ideas? Should I start taking the Metformin ( I have heard so many yays/nays for this med that I dont know if I want to take it or not. I am trying to get pregnant, and obviously failing but thats not my main concern. I want to be healthy and make sure nothing else is wrong. Should I just wait it out and see what happens? Or maybe get a second opinion? Could it be another polyp already?? Thanks for your help ladies :)

I would definitely seek a second opinion. Also, ask to have your thyroid checked. I have an under active thyroid, and that definitely leads to very long, very heavy periods (as well as many other issues - take a peek at the list of possible symptoms at www.stopthethyroidmadness.com - do any of them seem familiar?)
I would get a second opinion. And not to dismiss every male OB/GYN out there - I know there are good ones - but I would get a second opinion with a female reproductive endocrinologist. Your doc honestly doesn't sound like he's on top of what's going on or is really listening to your concerns.
I'm doing a detox now with Dr. Sara Gottfried, who wrote a book last year called The Hormone Cure that is an awesome resource on women's health. Because of the detox I've been inundated with data recently (webinars, Q&A sessions, a private FB page etc.) and in one of these talks they talked about how resveratrol is more effective than metformin at lowering blood sugar. PCOS is essentially a problem of insulin resistance and can be taken care of by getting your body to start processing foods correctly again.
I would highly, highly suggest that you pick up The Hormone Cure and if possible, consult with a doctor who is trained in that protocol (she has a list on her website and in the book). My guess is that you'll find a lot of material in the book that resonates with what you're going through and some ideas on which direction to proceed in.
I think you may need to see another dr. Just get another opinion. Wont hurt. I have ideas is you are done having babies to help stop it but not if you are still trying. Good luck!!!
If I were you, I would go to the ER. Seriously.
I had really bad cycles. Not as often as yours, but HEAVY. I was bleeding through and overnight tampon and pad every 20 mins. When I finally told the dr. my problems, the Primary and GYN were SHOCKED! They both said, 'do you realize you could have bled to death?'
According to them, and the show the Doctors, a regular cycle, a woman should only bleed about 1/4 cup for the whole cycle, and only need to change their pad/tampon every 1 - 2 hours.
Huge blood clots are sign that something is wrong.
I had an ultrasound and was diagnosed with endometriosis. The worst case my primary had seen. No polyps, thankfully. I had a procedure called Novasure, uterine ablation. It saved my life.
The GYN said that if we couldn't get the cycles under control, that I would need an emergency hysterectomy. Thankfully the Novasure seems to have worked, so far. I just had my 4y anniversary of the procedure.
Get a second opinion from another group. Make the appt and start with fresh testing.
Best of luck.
