Tomorrow the citizens of Wisconsin go to the polls for the recall election of Gov. Scott Walker. What are your thoughts? If he wins re-election, does this affect negatively on President Obama's re-election? Thoughts?

What can I do next?

I don't think it will make much of a difference. Walker has issues that are related to Wisonsin, and they do not really translate well to the rest of the country.

At best it might indicate which way Wisconsin might go, but with only 10 I think) votes in the Electoral College they will not have that big an impact.

OMG I was just thinking about this!! I live in WI and I think it is ridiculous! It is a waste of money. I used to be a teacher - went on maternity leave the october before Walker was voted in and decided to resign to stay home with my baby. I am so glad I avoided the MESS that school year was!

My husband and his family are conservatives. My family are liberals. I could go either way. I get it from both sides and I don't know what to think.

There are some things that Walker has done that I find...interesting. As a teacher, there are parts of collective bargaining that were helpful, but there were also parts that I thought were unnecessary. I think changes need to be made and he (and his supporting office - Republicans have control of state congress too) took the opportunity to push those items through.

Schools have been losing money for years - this is NOT a new problem!! Schools have been facing layoffs, closing programs, etc. for years...no matter who was in charge.

I do not think there should be a recall, because in my opinion, the things that he has done, are not things that should qualify for a "recall". Recalls should be saved for those situations where an elected official does something immoral or REALLY bad. Give him his 4 years and if you don't like what he does, then make sure to vote next time around.

Another issue I have with this is, the current news stories are projecting a "Whopping" 60% voter turnout for this election!! Ummm...60% does not seem like that much to me!! Why isn't everyone getting out and voting??? I think there are some real problems at all levels of government and part of the problem is people believing the blurbs provided by commercials and media rather than taking the time to educate themselves on the issues and choosing the candidate that matches their values...You need to pay attention to the issues, research them and research how the different candidates have voted in the past or their opinions on those issues.

I could go on and on...It is a hot topic here in WI and frankly, I am just ready for it all to be over...

Dear God I hope not. I hope he loses, but I really hope people do not discount Obama because they like Walker.

I live in Illinois, and we are having a budget crisis. The state has, for years, not paid their part of the pensions for state employees, teachers, police officers, firefighters, etc., and is now trying to renege on their promise. Scott Walker is the poster child for state government taking advantage of state and public service employees (taking away collective bargaining rights). My impression of Scott Walker is basically "Screw them so the have's can have more and the have not's can just keep baring the burden.

Obama's not perfect, but at least he's actually trying to help those who cannot help themselves. Can't say the same about Walker

Scott Walker is a prime example of "Be careful what you wish for, cuz you just might get it."

I don't think this will be a problem for President Obama.

Stupid whiney Unions. They don't get there way and they will lie & cheat. Walker won fair & square, so the haters should shut up and wait till his term is over just like I have to wait for Obama to get out of office. Obama won't step foot in Wisconsin, so perhaps he think this will affect him negatively.

Bobbi's post reminds me of a shirt I saw, Illinois, the only state who's governors make their license plates. :p

Gidget, I wish you could see Illinois from the Missouri perspective. My husband unfortunately works in both states. You have a hot mess over there and apparently not all of you get it. Knock on wood he hasn't worked over there this year, please let it continue. His firm won't even work for the state anymore because they don't pay their bills. :(

I digress, Illinois makes me laugh. Yeah we finally got rid of Blunt as a governor so we can turn on other states. :p

For those of you that doesn't get Missouri/Illinois politics, Blunt is a republican, the imprisoned governors from Illinois are dems.

So Wisconsin, how much do those teachers pay in union dues? Bet that will cover what they must fund in health insurance in pensions. Did people catch that, they don't have to join the unions anymore. The only thing the recall effects is unions. They want to make an example out of Walker for daring to stand up to them. This doesn't effect Obama one way or another which is probably why he will visit any state around Wisconsin but not set foot in it till the mess is settled.

By the way, you all make great beer!!! I visit once a year!! Madison is beautiful. :)

I was a WI state worker when Walker got voted in. I didn't vote for him, but he obviously got more votes than the other guy so he has every right to get his 4 years in office. I disagreed with his eliminating state unions, but I can see why he did in a way. We've all heard stories about the union spending days deciding what kind of carpet to get. A union is meant to protect the worker, but when these particular workers are being paid by taxpayers, strict rules should be set up. As much as I didn't like paying the increase in health insurance and being forced to pay into retirement, it did bring state workers closer to what the average worker pays and helps balance the budget. Besides, by most accounts, what Scott Walker is doing IS working. When my debt was too high, I made drastic changes...he's doing the same thing.

I don't think recalls should be allowed because people don't like what the new governor is doing. We all had a chance to vote, fair and square. I think recalls should only be allowed if there is a criminal issue with the governor, like he was found guilty of bribery. Otherwise, the voted in person should get their turn to make the changes they want.

No. I don't think it will affect Obama. Obama won't be re-elected because of his record.

I think the outcome in WI will demonstrate whether people look into the facts themselves and vote for who they agree with or if they just listen to the campaign ads and politician bashing on TV. There is a lot of money being spent in WI and from what I have seen, the stuff on TV and news shows have been so twisted.

As far as Obama's re-election, it comes down to the same thing. Will he be voted in or voted out because of his record and what he stands for or will people choose him because of what they see on TV. Will people vote for Obama because he keeps promising to make your life easier, pay for your healthcare (with our money), etc. instead of finding ways for people to pay for their own stuff (like more jobs and less dependency on the govt.)?

I don't usually comment on political questions, but I live in Wisconsin and I have to say, party politics aside, that I really, really hope Barrett wins. Walker has divided our state and even said last year he was going to take the "divide and conquer" approach to politics. I don't like that. I have many friends and family members who are public employees, including many teachers, and his policies have felt like a direct attack on them. In addition, our schools have lost record amounts of funding. I can't understand, particularly in this type of global economy that we are in, why in the world taking funding away from schools and students (i.e. our future) would ever seem like a good idea.
I'm not sure that this issue has too much to do with Obama's election. I know plenty of republicans that will be voting against Walker (republican), but that does not mean they will vote that way in the presidential election.

I'll have my fingers crossed tomorrow, and of course be voting.

There are a LOT of elected officials I would like to recall...

I don't live in Wisconsin. So I don't know personally what either party had done or not done.

Do I think it will negatively affect Obama? As a Conservative, I can tell you I pray to God that people wake up and smell the coffee before they cast their votes in November....So if Walker wins this recall? I think it will hurt Obama and since he's NOT been able to make a difference in the past in deal breaker states, I think he chose NOT to go to Wisconsin so that they "can't blame him" should Barrett lose.
