Will a Certification of Vital Record Work???

I'm about to choke myself out of frustration with the gathering of documents I need to get a freakin' Illinois driver's license. Ugh!!! Does anyone know if an official "Certification of Vital Record" (it's an abstract of birth facts with a raised seal) will work for the "birth certificate" requirement? It would be nice to use something I already have in my possession. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone. I think it will work, but I guess I'm going to have to call them to double-check. I appreciate your input!

If you have the official doc called a Certification of Birth instead of the original birth certificate with the signatures, as long as it has the seal, it should be fine. The only way to get the original in Illinois is to send to Springfield after 6 months from birth.

I'm in California.
I happen to have a copy of my son's birth certificate right in front of me.

At the top it says,
"State of California Certification of Vital Record"
Under that, it says the County and the City.

It contains my son's name, the date and time of his birth, the hospital, my husband's name, birthdate and state of birth, then my name (maiden last name), birthdate and state of birth.
It's signed by me and the doctor who delivered my son.

So, if that's what you've got, I'd say you have a copy of your birth certificate.
Yay!!

Best wishes.

Only the DMV will know.
each city is probably different.
try calling them.
How irritating yep.

I would think, it would be fine.

Do you have a passport? You can use that instead of a birth certificate.

When I went to get a birth certificate I was given a Certification of Vital Record. I didn't think to ask about the different title. The certification has been accepted every time I needed a birth certificate.

Troy has both, Missouri takes both. He can't remember which he used when he got his drivers license in Illinois because that was over 20 years ago. Missouri was last year. :)

Remember you live in an alter universe where people can be fined 500 dollars for not knowing there was salt in front of your deer stand five years ago. That they can hold your refund check for two years asking for proof you withheld, like the money itself isn't proof.

Can you tell I am still in awe of how much money Illinois parts from their resident's pockets? It wasn't a hard sell getting him to come across the river. :)

They make money every time you request a birth certificate, if I were a gambling type I would put money on they require the actual birth certificate. :(
