If she won't take two naps any more. Move her morning nap gradually later and later. It will be a transition, but gradually you should be able to get it to a late morning to early afternoon nap.
So here's my dilemma...i have a 13month old little girl, who's a GREAT sleeper... sleeps from 7 30 pm to 7 am in the morning... by 9 am she's tired, and by 9:30 she takes her first nap till about 11... I usually pick up my 4 year old from school at 2 30, and rush home to put her down again... well, for the last week, she's been REFUSING to take her second nap... she'll sleep one day, and skip the next...i mean, she lays there for an hour, hour and a half, but wont sleep... complains occasionally, but i do make her stay in her bed... so WHY wont she sleep??? i know that eventually (and soon) she'll be moving on to one nap, but i thought its when they drop the first nap, not the second... plus, if she doesnt take her second nap, and just 'rests', she's a moody disaster till 7 30.. it really is a long time for a baby to be awake, from 11 to 7, thats 8 hours...
any ideas???

My son gave up his second nap at 15 months. I kept trying but he would either just lay there and talk or scream and cry. I would say skip the morning nap and put her down sometime in the afternoon, whatever time is best for you and her. My son wakes up between 6:30-7AM, takes his nap around 11:30-12 and goes to bed at 7pm.
Sorry H., sounds perfectly normal. I think we moms have an even harder time when they drop the second nap than the kids do, after all, it's a LONG time without a break for us, too!
Having down time/quiet time is still important so as long as she is laying down, being quiet, etc. I think you're doing all you can do. One thing I did at this age and beyond was to actually lay down with my child in MY bed, we would read a story or two and then I would turn over and say "mommy is going to sleep now." As long as my child was sufficiently worn out, she would fall asleep within a few minutes (and I usually would too!) I miss that special cuddle time now that my youngest one is ten. Hang in there, it won't last forerver :)
Both my kids dropped their second nap at one year. I would push back the morning nap by 30 minutes to an hour each day until she's taking one nap around 11am or noon (depending on what schedule you'd like). Now that my son's 2.5 he's pushed his only nap back to around 1, and next we'll be nap-less, oh joy...good luck.
My daughter gave up her afternoon nap at 15 months....she may be fighting it already.
Hi H., I think at 13 months their a little old for 2 naps a day. I have a 14 month old in my daycare and she doesn't fall asleep at nap time anymore, but i do make her stay in the playpen for the duration of nap time. As long as she's laying down and obeying you I wouldn't worry to much. J.
my son stopped napping all together by the age of 2. but yours sounds normal...i would stop the afternoon nap and work on a later mroning nap!!
