So What Happened?

So~the reason I ask this is because I am the only person I know. I live in a small town (300 people) and everybody thinks I am crazy! But, I loooove cloth! Granted, I probably would hate it if prefolds were the only options, I have never figured them out. Trying to remember the questions... For websites, I love diaperswappers dot com, you can read about all kinds of brands, and also try them for a considerable discount, for the one who is due in May, try to buy used if you can until you figure out what you like and what works good for your baby (I am a chicken and wouldn't start until babe was over the newborn poo stage!). I adore my fuzzi bunz, and BG is BumGenius. I use the bg aio which is a sized diaper, I think they are a little bulky on the smallest setting, not so bad on med. and large. When we go places I add two inserts into my Fuzzi Bunz~no wet spots on the bum! And suprisingly, no more bulky than a size 6 disposable! I wash my own dipes, not hard I promise! Just throw them into a pail (a trashcan w/ a lid on it), no water in the pail, do a quick cold rinse and then a hot/cold cycle. I actually like doing diaper laundry! I didn't cloth diaper for the environment element, although it is an awesome benefit! As well as only having half the trash to take out on trash day. My son had horrible eczema. The cloth made it pretty much disaper. The chemicals and powders and gels in disposable are really harsh on soft skin. I H. that helps! And thanks everyone for posting! All of you how cd'ed back when~~~I bow down to you! I don't know that I would have liked the pins and prefolds and rubber pants!

I used cloth diapers when my daughter was a baby. She was completely potty trained by the time she was 18 months old. I owe it to the cloth diapers. She could feel when she was wet and didn't like it. I started with a diaper service and then we moved out of their area so I bought diapers and washed them myself. I wouldn't use anything else. They're not only better for my child, their better for the world!

I do!! I am a 34 year old mom of 5 (girls: 8, 6, 4, 2 and a 6 wk. old baby boy!). Two of my sisters use them too but I don't know anyone else who does. None of my friends can believe I use them. My eight year old daughter even did a demonstrative speech to her 3rd class on "How to change a baby" and used cloth- her teacher commented to the class that "that was what people used to use" (she didn't know I actually still use them!) What are Fuzzi Bunz and BG? I just use basic cloth diapers that I ordered and bought from a service (I clean them myself), w/basic plastic pants over them. What are all these other products everyone is talking about? Do you have some websites you can refer me to? I would love trying something new!!

Good for you H.! I tried using cloth diapers with my older child to save money since we were going down to one income. They didn't really work for me, but I think that (1) I was not using the best products - I've never heard of the brands that you and other moms are referring to, and (2) I was expecting the same reliability of a cloth diaper as I was a disposable - I would use disposables if we were going to be out of the house. I remember asking my grandmother, who had no alternative 60 years ago, if all children walked around with wet stains around their butt:-) It sounds like you've got a handle on your cloth diaper situation, and I applaud you for getting back to basics!

I am wanting to CD with our first baby in May, but am finding the choices a bit staggering! My mom CD'd me and my brother back in the day (late 70's, early 80's) for environmental reasons, and I guess it's in my blood! I showed her all the options that are out there now and she was blown away! What do you recommend for someone just starting out? Is it best to get a variety of types of CD's and just test them out to see what we like best before plunking down the $$$ for a whole stash? Which BG's do you use? I love the looks of the OS pockets, but am scared they will be too bulky for a newborn. Any thoughts?

I've used cloth with both my kids. The first one was daytime potty trained (with little effort) at 19 months, and I totally think it was the diapers. I prefer indian cotton prefolds and bummis super whisper wrap covers. I started out as cheap as possible (gerber prefolds and vinyl covers... ugh!) and then got the good prefolds and bummis. Now that my husband is working (we had my first just before he started law school, and with me being a stay at home mom and him in school we had a TIGHT budget), I've tried a few other things, but not much because I just lOVE my prefolds and covers so much. I have one Bum Gennius and I do like it A LOT. I think I will get a few more of those for at night time (by the end of the day, It's nice to have something easy). Anyway, you're not alone! Thanks for saving the environment for my kids and yours!

I started using cloth diapers back in September on my 19mo. old due to chronic diaper rash. I LOVE them! I use Swaddlebee's with aplix. I have a few Fuzzi Bunz and I don't really like the fit. I have a short and wide boy and the fuzzi bunz seem too loose. I would love to try a BG sometime. They look really nice. I also have a couple GAD. Those are great! The best websites are www.diaperswappers.com and www.diapertraders.com. Also check out: http://lilbunz.com/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=GentlyUsedand2nds

We used cloth with my two youngest. I don't have anyone young enough for diapers here anymore, however I am still very involved in the cloth diapering community. When we used cloth I had a slight addiction to buying diapers:D My dd's stash was very large and had tons of different types of diapers in it, however my favorites were Little Caboose, Happy Heinys, and a good fitted with wool over it.

I have a 17 month old daughter and we have used Fuzzi Bunz for the vast majority of the time. However, since she's been older we've had so many leaks that I've started relying more on disposables. I'm really torn about what to do, since I believe in using cloth, and I already have invested in them.

I used cloth diapers on all four of my children- almost 7 yrs. straight! My youngest is three and a half and has been potty-trained for a year. I think cloth is a better choice all around- better use of money, better for the health of the child (who wants plastic underwear?) and better for the environement. Most of my friends have used cloth and also prefer them to the disposable.

We used Nikkys diaper covers and I just LOVED them. They are expensive, but well worth it, considering I used the same covers for at least three children.

We would supplement disposable diapers when we went out but I found my children would get rashes much more quickly with disposable than with the cloth, so I tried to keep it to a minimum. You are not the only one!

I use a combo of cloth and disposables right now. I use Babycare Diaper service. My cloth diapers don't last the entire night for my baby, so he has to sleep in pampers.

You are not the only one. You can google for other groups around you. Try natural parenting as one of the key words.

I used cloth diapers with both my 6 and my 4 yr old. Not only did we save a TON of money, but we helped the environment by not throwing away a ton of plastic! LOL

I congratulate you for making such an informed and responsible choice!! :o)

You will find others, possibly even in your own town!!
Dont let anyone try to change your mind.

I love Fuzzi Bunz too! We've been using them since our son was 5 months, he's 21 months now. Although the initial cost feels like a lot, we've saved so much money over the course. Now with baby #2 coming, I'm excited to get even more use of them! I agree with a previous poster, if people only realized how easy they were, more people would use cloth.

Me! Me! We've had our 2 month old in them since the beginning (mainly Chinese PF's with a few AIO/AI2/fitteds for fun). Right now we're feeling the hemp love b/c he is such a heavy wetter. So we're mostly using Hemparoo prefolds and Cricketts fitteds, but I have a few medium FB's I can't wait to get him in.

H., you are NOT the only one to use cloth diapers. I used them with my two sons. Every mom I know who uses cloth diapers has her own favorite that she swears by. Personally, I absolutely loved Motherease diapers and covers. Very rarely did I deal with leaks, and never did I have to contend with a "blow out" diaper. And, the dipaers lasted through two boys. What a bargain!

You are not the only person who is using or has used cloth.
I used Durkee cloth diapers with both of my children. At home and away from home. Being prepared is key. A zip lock bag holds a lot wonderful uses. Cloth is great for your baby and cost effective for you. They last such a long time and when you no longer need them for bottoms, they become great dust cloths and car wash cloths.

Oh my, I love cloth! I used Kushies with my first daughter, but because of some crazy circumstances, lost them. So, with a new one on the way I'm trying out different brands to see which ones I like best. I've bought several samples from ebay and are doing test runs on them. What are BG?

My wife and I started using B. about 21 months ago with our first daughter. We liked it so much that we bought the business in Sept of 2006. People are always amazed at how affordable delivery of cloth diapers can be. We use a lot of the Bummis wraps and some lite wraps. We are always excited to hear about people using cloth diapers even if it's not through our service.

Never used them. my son was born in 1985 and he has sinced passed away. I went the disposal route from the beginning, but had him potty trained at 8 months. If you can afford disposals, go for it. If not, use and wash the originals diapers.

my co workers gave me 3 mon. of diaper service when my oldest daughter was born, back in 1973, so i used cloth diapers briefly. i wound up having to return to work, and the daycare home i enrolled her in wanted disposable diapers, so i had to go that route then and with my youngest daughter, born 9.5yrs. later.
