Which Pillow to Use During Breastfeeding

With my first daughter, I used the boppy all the time. It has been less than a year and it has really broken down. I want something with better support since I have a second baby due in a few months. I have been looking at My Breastfriend and the VIVA breastfeeding pillows. Anyone use either of these? What works best for you?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I am going with the My Breastfriend pillow. I almost bought it instead of the Boppy with my first daughter but went with what was popular. Everyone's advice plus the recommendation as the #1 choice of lactation consultants finalized my decision. Thanks.

Hi R.!

I've used boppy and my brest friend. The my breast friend is 100 times better. Win's hands down. It's got a waist band so you can wear it. It doesn't slip off. You can rest your baby on it and walk around. You can feed hands free. It's more firm, providing more support for your baby.

I don't know about VIVA, but I can't imagine anything better than the my brest friend pillow.

I like the BreastFriend pillow. It's great to use to get some computer time while the baby is nursing.

I recommend 'my breast friend' pillow....it's more substantial than the boppy pillow. Additionally, it has a velcro strap that you can wrap around you for even more support (especially if you are nursing while chasing your firstborn around). The pillow even has pockets to hold the phone, a book, whatever. Most important: the cover is removable so it can be washed easily! I'm sure you can buy them online (search ebay). Good luck.

I absolutely loved the Bosom baby pillow. It comes is many styles and colors. I had a flannel one that is so soft. The covers are removable so you can wash easily. They also have some really soft fuzzy chenille ones too. www.bosombaby.com
It is thick and puffy, allows you to raise the baby up, and comes in a great V-shape for those babies that like either the football position or that just like to stretch out while eating. You can also use it as a pillow for yourself when pregnant. You can find them at Baby Beloved behind Breton Village Mall. They have quite a large selection and will also special order for you as well. The owners are Jamie and Kelly, both certified RN's and board certified lactation consultants.
Best of luck, J.

Hi,
The My breastfriend is what I used for three of my kids. It held up great. I liked it much better then the boppy because it didn't move around when in use. Nothing is worse then trying to adjust the pillow while feeding the baby.
Good luck with the new baby!

I used both the boppy and my brest friend with my two boys when nursing. I used the Boppy with my first, then the my brest friend two and a half years later. I have to say that the my brest friend is much better for nursing because it wraps around your back and gives you support too. It also had a larger area for the baby to rest on and has pockets. Just make sure you get a newer one because the older ones had velcro for the back attachment and that is really noisy in the middle of the night. The newer ones have clips to secure it around you, much less noise at 2am. I would definately recommend the my brest friend for nursing. They're about $40 new but you may be able to get a used one on craigslist.org. Good luck.
