Which Diaper Disposal Is Best?

any extra plastic bags from Dominicks, Jewel, ect....throw the poop ones in and tie them up and get them outta the house before the whole place reeks like poop =) Honestly I think those diaper things are a huge waste of money--you can still smell the diapers.

We have a 2 month old and a 3 month old (so we have LOTS of diapers) and we just hang a grocery bag up by the changing table and each evening tie it up and throw it in the kitchen garbage that goes out every other day. No smell at all. If one of them has a really bad poop, then I put it in a scented diaper sack first then into the garbage. It is like $4 for 50 of the little diaper sacks. They will hold 2 or 3 diapers easily. Very economical for 1 baby.

I put mine in the normal garbage and take out regularly. I take the dirty diapers straight outside. I had the Diaper Champ and like others said, it starts smelling after a few months. I used baking soda and tried to clean it regularly but I couldn't stand the smell in my daughter's room after a short period.

I use a regular diaper pail with a plastic garbage bag liner. The pail cost about $15 at Babies R Us. When I get a poopy diaper, I put it in a diaper bag (I get them from the dollar store), then put it in the pail. The wet diapers, I just toss in the diaper pail. I change it every three days or when it gets full. It has worked well. I had the Diaper Champ, but after a while, the seal on it got bent out of shape making it hard to push back and forth. I also had the Diaper Genie, but found it cost too much.

I've been using the diaper champ and it's been working well for us. We have been using it for a year. I like diaper champ because you can use any bag you want, you don't have to buy specific bags from them.

However we don't put poo diapers in there because it will really stink up the room. We throw the poo diapers outside. We try to change the bag in the diaper champ every other day so it won't be too stinky.

I've used the diaper genie, the diaper champ and now have the Diaper Dekor. I like the Dekor a lot. It really keeps the smell contained and is easy to dispose of the diapers. No touching anything! I actually bought it used on craigslist, so it's not a new pail and it still works great. I guess you're supposed to use refills, but I actually just use regular garbage bags and they work great. If you get one and want to know how to use the regular bags, you can ask me. It's pretty easy to figure out, but it you can't, let me know.

We use the plastic bags from the grocery store/target. Hang one on a hook on the wall next to the changing table and simply put the diapers in there. Then, every night at bedtime we take it outside to the trash can. Way better than the Champ we used to have b/c the plastic would take on the smell after a while and it was hard to get rid of it. Plus, if company is coming over, we just take the bag out earlier and voila! No diaper smell in the house anymore.

We have a Diaper Champ. It works fine, but as the bag fills, the odor will escape the chamber momentarily as a new diaper is flipped. I think this would be common for all devices. The Champ uses just regular kitchen trash bags. We also put the poopy diapers with subsequent wipes in a grocery sack too, then deposit it in the Champ. Someone mentioned not being able to flip down single wipes; that's true, so we just don't do it. If we wipe it gets wrapped in the wet/dirty diaper then flipped.

I have used the Genie and now the Champ. Neither keep the smell out of the room completely, but I like the Champ better because you don't have to buy the liners like you do with the Genie. Once our children's diapers started getting really smelly, we moved the Champ out into the garage and just toss it in there so his room doesn't smell and we don't have to empty it every day or 2.

I think I'm the only person that still uses my Diaper Genie Two. I actually love it. You drop the diaper in and close the lid with a foot pedal. I rarely notice a bad smell. The refill bags are kinda pricey, but worth it to me. We change the bag twice a week on garbage pick-up days. I do have to say that mine is in the bathroom and not the nursery. We actually change most diapers in the bathroom anyway.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it before, but when the poops got more solid, we dump the poop in the toilet and flush, seal up the emptied diaper, and throw it in our Diaper Champ. Really has helped reduce the poopy odors. When baby number two came around 16 months later and both kids were still in diapers, we still used the Diaper Champ for downstairs, but used a regular plastic bags that were emptied every 2-3 days for upstairs. And air out the Diaper Champ outside every few weeks.

I used the Diaper Champ. I liked it because it takes and trash bag. So, there is no chance of running out of the bagging systems that some diaper disposals use.

I did have to set it out in the sun a few times to air out- but totally worth it- we used this thing for almost 3 years.

Honestly, everyone is right, none of them really keep the smell in. I, however, am far too lazy to take those diapers out every night (sad but true) so I actually have a Diaper Champ in my daughter's room and a pretty basic diaper pail (I think it's Safety 1st) in my son's room. The CHamp is nice b/c, like Momo said, you can use any bag you want. I do prefer however the basic model in my son's room (which was like $15) b/c it has a button and you push it and the flap pops open to put the diaper in. It's like a normal trash can but with a lid. Our dog will eat diapers, so we had to have something that was covered and this one is the best of both worlds. My husband will just put wipes in the Champ and try to throw them out this way and it drives me nuts b/c all it really does is jam it up. It really only works for the diaper, everything else gets stuck. The flip top lid of the Safety 1st model lets me throw everything in there and I love it! I use car airfresheners and put them in the bottom of the pails along with odor blocker garbage bags and it's really not horrible. Do what works for you, but I really don't think the expensive ones work any better!

I use the Diaper Genie II and have loved it. Now that my son is creeping up on a year old I rarely use it. His bowel movements are now only once a day so no big deal to put in shopping bag and throw it out but I will say it was a life saver the first months I would of been running out of shopping bags...lol

I am with the other posters...just take it to the garbage. No matter what system, they all seem to fail after a few months. I loved my diaper champ, until my son was about six months old. Then it made his room smell like an outhouse. My SIL loved her diaper genie for about seven months. My neighbor swore by an old school diaper pail, for about a month. Save the money and your nasal passages. :)

I just got the $5 screw on lid plastic garbage can (about 3 gallon size). It worked fantastic. Recycled it maybe once a year? No biggie as it was only $5. Lined it with regular garbage bags. No smell at all as long as I screwed it tight. My grandmother and about half the women in my fam use a big glass jar with airtight lid. Also works fantastic, and unlike my plastic one, the glass never absorbs the smell so you never have to replace them. But they're heavy and expensive. Still... once the babes are grown it can be used for other things.

i have a diaper genie but after my first child i haven't ever used it again. The smell gets into the rubber lining and all the plastic parts. They just don't really work that well after a few months.
I have a regular plastic trash bag with a plastic bag that we take out once a week. I think it works fine. If you want I would put the poopy ones in a walmart sack tie it up and then put it in the bag. I don't think you need to take it out every night. But don't waste your money on the genie or the champ. A lid on the trash can works just the same!

get the diaper genie II - i have the diaper champ also and i hate it. you can not put the used wipes in the hole on the champ and then put the diaper on top and try to flip it. the wipes hang up the mechanism everytime. i usually put the new diaper under the old diaper while it is still on my daughter and wipe her first before i pull the used diaper out. hence the reason the wipes are in the diaper hole before the actual diaper. i dont like having to clean all that out to make it work. if you put the used wipes inside the used diaper and then put the whole thing in the diaper hole, then it works great. i like diaper genie so i dont have to touch anything.

one that permits me to use normal trashbags and does not require the manufacturers costly refills.

I kept the plastic grocery sacks in a drawer in our nursery. Each diaper was tied up and thorn out in the trash can outside. I never smelled a thing. At first I had the Diaper Jennie, but it just seemed unsanitary to me. I got to where I was emptying it everyday. It was just too much work, and I still had a odor in the room.

This is my fifth baby and the first time I've used a diaper disposal. I use Diaper Genie II and I LOVE it!! No smell!!

I used the diaper champ rather than the diaper genie because you can use regular garbage bags in the champ. You have to buy special bags for the genie.

That said, I used it until he started eating solids. At that point, the poop was way to smelly to keep in the house. We put a garbage can on the landing of our garage for dirty diapers. That isn't the best option in the world cause you get a huge wiff of week old poopy diapers as you walk into the garage, but it is better than being in the house somewhere!
