I guess it really depends on what you are wanting to spend on your trip. My parents used to take us to Florida and Colorado for spring break and/or summer trips. A couple of years we decided to do something different and went on a couple of cruises. They are really nice and a great way for children to have fun along with letting the parents relax. During the day, there is a children's camp that you can allow your children to go to that is supervised by 'camp counselors'. They do things around the boat. For example, they have talent shows that the kids can participate. While they are doing this, mom and dad can relax by the pool, enjoy lunch together, take a nap, play in the casino...TONS OF THINGS!!! The days that you port you can get off the boat and pick from tons of land excursions. Personally, cruising is the best way to vacation. All your meals are taken care of, so no going out to eat or making sandwiches in your room or cleaning up anything. There is food all of the time. Even if you are in your room, you can call for room service and its free. There are only a few things that are not included...alcohol, soft drinks, land excursions. But, everything else is taken care of for you. The only other thing that I can suggest to cut down on cost is to book a cruise that is leaving a port that is close to you. Being in central Arkansas, we always book out of New Orleans. That way, we don't have to pay for expensive plane tickets. We just hop in the car the day before our ship is set to leave and drive down, stay the night in a hotel, and get up the next morning to explore the rivermarket before we board.
Anyway...good luck!!
Hope you all have a great time!!
