Hubby and I are off on our annual weekend as tourist in the city. I'd like to surprise him with a few new places to eat breakfast and lunch. I have dinner covered, though I am open to some suggestions to places you think are great that I may be able to get a Friday reservation for this week! Our reservation for Friday is a place we've been before. But I do need some breakfast/lunch suggestions. One caveat: i don't like sweat breakfasts. I like eggs with black beans, or, kale and feta.

Favorite breakfast/lunch spot? Favorite dinner?

I really want to surprise him with some great new places.

Has anyone eaten at Ramen-San? Hubby loves Ramen, i was thinking of having lunch here.

What can I do next?

Lou Mitchell's is a breakfast must in Chicago. It is very close to Union Station on Jackson. It has been serving breakfast in Chicago since the 1920s. I am pretty sure you won't get kale there, but the breakfast skillets with eggs, potatoes and a meat are fantastic. You will be offered a donut hole when you get there. I would recommend taking one, they are divine, but obviously you are welcome to decline as well.

Frontera grill has an amazing brunch. Might be Saturday only. Although, if your a Chicagoan you could have been there a million times. I haven't been to Ramen San but my very picky foodie friend said it is great.

Have fun.

While this place is not necessarily downtown (it is in the Bridgeport neighborhood), it is great - local, sustainable, and organic.

I believe they were featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. They are definitely not a drive-in or a dive, but a family-owned treasure. Mexican-inspired.

If you like eggs & healthy, go to Bakin & Eggs on Lincoln.
It's my favorite spot, and they take reservations if you're going on a weekend. The fritattas and breakfast burrito are to die for.

Other good ones, if you want to stay downtown, Hub 51, Brunch, Orange all do fantastic breakfasts and brunches, that are up your alley for fare. But seriously, take a cab up to Bakin and Eggs. You'll thank me.

The dinner list is way too long, so I won't bother since you have that covered.

Don't know if you're looking to stay downtown for meals, but if you want to get into neighborhoods, Flo and Lula Cafe are our favorites for breakfast (places we'll go when my husband has a weekday off and the kids are in school). Flo (Chicago & Noble) is Mexican-inspired and you'll definitely find black beans on the menu there. Lula is in Logan Square, just off the big roundabout. We used to go to Jam when it was walking distance, but they are now in Logan Square, too.

For lunch, why not check out Eataly since you're being a tourist for the weekend?
