Where to Donate My Hair

Good morning moms-I am seriously considering cutting my hair and figure I have about 12-14 inches. I want to donate to a group that works for the client preferably a children's advocacy group. I do not want to give it to a group that "profits" in lieu of the patient.

Please let me know of any great groups. I may have it done today so I would suppose time is of the essence!!

thank you
T.

My girlfriend's niece is 12 and about to get her FIRST wig/hair - she has Alopesha (sp - I have no idea how you spell it!) and they went through Locks of Love. It was a very emotional experience for all of them - they got to make a cast of her head, draw eyebrows to frame her face - everyone shed tears of happiness knowing she'll finally get to feel like the other girls in her class...I understand they are a great organization.

I think it is wonderful what you are doing! WHen I used to work in a salon we would give our clients the information for Locks Of Love! Read the guidelines here to make sure that it is being done correctly and is able to be used.

God bless you and yours!

I donated mine to locks of love...the salon that I had my hair cut at took care of sending it in for me...I would imagine if you asked them wherever you go to get your hair cut, they, too, would be able to donate it for you...otherwise you just need to make sure the hair is tied(in a ponytail or braid) and dry and put it in a plastic bag and then into the envelope to mail...I think that's all there is to it, but I noticed another person posted a link for locks of love and you might want to double check there to make sure. good luck and good for you...I'm donating my hair again this spring :)

I would say the same as all the other responses, LOCKS OF LOVE. Although they may not take the hair if it has been died or permed or so i was told. I cut 12 inches off my hair a few years back and wanted to donate it. Instead i donated it to a cosmotology school. They used it for their little plastic heads they practice on. Whatever decision you make it will help some one . Wheather it is helping a child feel better about themselves or helping teach someone that could end up being your hairstylist one day.

Hi T., I work at a salon downtown and we have been donating the hair to pantene. Look on their website for the info... I just heard that locks of love charges the kids for the wigs and pantene doesn't... good luck!!

Ulta Salons (many locations) participates in "Locks of Love", which is an organization that uses your hair to create natural wigs for those who, either have conditions that cause them to prematurely go bald or for those who are on chemotherapy.

My daughter & I, both donated our hair, two years ago. The cut is free but they charge you for styling. They actually give you the cut-ponytail and it is your responsibility to submit it. Other salons also participate in this - just call and ask if they support "Locks of Love".

There is also another organization, that my nephew was involved in, which raises money and funds to cure kid's cancers by supporting cancer research. The name is St. Baldrick's. My nephew is a teacher and the school participated in an event. Since time is of the essence for you, the first choice is the best, however, if you can participate in a St. Baldrick's event or create one of your own...that might be a great choice, too.

Good luck.
