Don't buy maternity!!! Go to Lane Bryant, or The Avenue, etc. A regular plus size store. The fashions are much nicer and you will have much better luck with sales, etc.
I was wondering where to shop for maternity clothing where there's a decent plus size section? Pre-pregnancy, XL just really didn't cut it...I needed 1x tops and 18w pants. I haven't seriously started looking for maternity clothing yet, but on the occasional stroll through a maternity store or maternity section with a (regular-sized) friend, I've noticed that there isn't much plus size maternity and nursing clothing.
My MIL wants to take me shopping for maternity clothing when I'm ready, and I want to avoid the embarrassment of going somewhere that has nothing or next to nothing in my size. (While I'm obviously overweight, most people don't guess I'm in the plus sizes and I'd rather not draw her attention to my clothing size...)

don't forget to shop eBay... It's a great way to suplement your wardrobe. I got most everything for my second pregnancy and then sold it all back for almost the same price that I paid. It was nice not to wear the same 4-5 outfits all 9 months!!!
PJK, i don't know how you feel about re-sale shops but i am plus size also actually about your same size, and i just took all my maternity close to sell at slightly pregnant...they really inspect the clothes to make sure they are in great condition and up to date in style within the past two years...i brought a lot of clothes there that are really cute and stylish...i shopped all over because there wasn't alot out there...target, kohls, walmart, jcpenny's and motherhood carry some 2xl's not alot so i would pick up a little here and there...i also got alot from lane bryant, although they weren't maternity i found alot of syles had extra room in the belly area if i went up a size or two...lane byrant has maternity clothes on line only but i personaly don't like to buy something i can't try on...good luck...slightly pregnant is on woodward between 13 and 14 mile.
Motherhood has a specifically plus size online store, and I know that have at least a small selection in most of their stores (you could call ahead to be sure). I am a size 18/xl pre pregnancy and just had to try things on to see what works. I found I couldn't wear the tops that are the empire waist (which most preggo tops are), because my chest was too big and they didn't lay right. But sticking to a regular t-shirt type worked great. I did not end up needing the plus sizes, the xls at Motherhood worked for me (but not the xls at Old Navy - go figure!) I highly recommend their "secret fit belly" pants - they are a god send!!! Good luck with whatever you find!
Because we only wear maternity short term I found resale to be a great resource for like new on a budget. There's a resale shop called 'Slightly Pregnant' in Royal Oak. It's on Woodward between 13& 14 Mile. Also if you aren't opposed to second hand I found lots of barely used at a local Value Village. I also found more name brand kids clothing than my son can wear- nearly new. Of course you have to sort through the more worn things to find the gems there because they are less organized than a shop but it's so worth it. Go to craigs list and search maternity clothes. Or mom2momlist.com and check out the resources there too. They have a list of resale shops there. Your dollar will go a lot farther and you will look just as good. Good luck!!!
Save gas and shop on-line. Shipping is cheaper than driving around to different stores and still not finding anything you really like. You'll get more selection on line too.
JC Penny, Target and Old Navy have decent supplies.
I also was the same size as you when I was pregnant, and I found just going to the plus size stores worked for me just bought a size or two bigger than I normally wore and it worked.
Oh I remember being in the same boat...I had a heck of a time trying to find plus size maternity! My two favorite places to shop were Target & Walmart and I had no luck there. But I found a few places. The Motherhood Maternity store that is in Twelve Oaks mall has plus size (at the time that I needed it, the MM store at Westland Mall did NOT have plus size, although I've heard a rumor that they've started carrying them now) and I also found a few good things in the maternity section at Sear's (I went to westland mall). Another place where I got a good stash was at the Once Upon a Child in Ann Arbor (most of the OUAC stores do not carry maternity clothes but this one does). Good luck!
