Where Do You Camp?

I would love to give my boys the experience of camping. We currently own a tent and are looking for a friendly place to take them on their first outing. I would love somewhere that has clean toilet facilities, kid friendly and not too far away from home (New Lenox). I wouldn't mind traveling about an hour to get to the destination if it is well worth it. Do you have a recomendation where you camp that you think I would like? Why do you like this place? Thanks in advance for any help =)

I'm not familiar with your area but a good site (you can make reservations on here too) is http://www.reserveamerica.com/. It tells you what the camp ground has to offer, a lay out of the camp ground and price. There are also some review websites too. If you just take the name of the campground and type review after it in google you'll find a few and you can read what people say about bathhouses, camp staff, etc. Most of that might be from people that camp in RVs but at least it will give you some insight!

Good luck and happy camping!

We like the Jellystone Park in Millbrook, IL. Very kid friendly with activities for the kids, we went last year and loved and will definitely go back this year. It was a one hour drive from the south suburbs, not too bad.

I am not from your area, but i would suggest looking for a KOA Kampgrounds of America, of the camps we have stayed at they seem the nicest, kid friendliest and cleanest. AAA should have campgrounds in their tourguide with ratings i bet. have fun.

Indiana dunes state park is a good place. The beach is there, hiking trails and nice campsites. The bathrooms are clean, they just had them remodeled a year or two ago. I always use flip flops in the showers in campground facilities. Also, Starved Rock is a great place, although I don't recall how nice/clean their bathrooms are. Enjoy your camping!

We are going to try Lake Ladonna in Oregon, IL. It is about 2 hours from Frankfort, from what I can tell. We are crossing our fingers, it is our first time as a family camping...in a tent. The website makes it look nice. Check it out.
