I have bought my girls some wide widths at walmart. It seems to be a hit or miss thing there though.
Hi moms!
It is back to school time, so I am looking for an inexpensive pair of gym shoes that my son can leave at school. He only wears them 1x a week. We buy his everyday shoes at Stride Rite and just had him measured. He is a 10W. Does anyone know if Target, Walmart, Kmart or some other place carries wide widths?
Thank you so much!
Thanks everyone for your responses. My mom was able to find a pair at Payless. She was a hit, I was a miss there. The suggestion about the outlets was a great one and we will have to remember it for the future.

There is an outlet mall in pleasant prairie wisconsin. Right over the wisconsin border.

There is a Stride Rite at the Aurora Outlet Mall- I buy my son's shoes there at 1/2 the price! I bought him a pair for $23! I couldn't believe how much cheaper they are at the outlet!
Good luck!
New Balance does have wide. I have gotten them at Kohls but like most of the pp said it's hit or miss. You might be able to get them online. I think if you sign up your email you get a 5.00 coupon.
The only cheap shoes I've seen in wide were at Payless....
I know that New Balance come in all widths.. they might be cheaper than Stride Rites.
New Balance has W and XW. DC brand (skate shoes) are normally wide. Thats what I buy for my 13 month old.
Just went to the Prime Outlets in Aurora. They have a stride rite/keds store. I got my kids tennis shoes(wide) for $19.99. I would call to see if they are still on sale first though.Lots of different ones to choose from.I bought my daughter Munchins(made by stride rite) at Kohls in wide . I don't know if they have boys though.Good luck:)
We typically buy all the kids shoes at Gotskinds in Naperville - they usually have some great clearance item gym shoes that you can get before school!
My son has wide feet and we buy his shoes at Payless, believe it or not. He is still in toddler sizes, so I don't know if they carry them in "kid's" sizes or not. Worth a try at least. Good luck!
If you're only looking for 1 wide (my boys are XXW and my daughter is W) Payless has W shoes but you have to look usually at the stacks on top instead of the shoes that are out. Usually the Champion brand is what I've found to run in W. There's also a stride rite outlet in aurora and in Michigan City and you can get stride rite shoes for $15-$20 which is much better than $50.00 Good luck!
