Any chance you can spare $20-30 for a sitter to come take over so you can rest for a little bit?
That would be my solution.
Good luck!
What's your quick pick-me-up?? I've had a gnarly head cold all week, and right now I'm struggling to keep my eyes open, but I have a house full of kids since our friends are at the hospital with their dying father. I would be out of my mind to sleep for 30 minutes right now. I drank a cup of coffee and had a bottle of water, tried singing... but my body NEEDS sleep from being sick... I just can't afford to sleep right now. So what's your quick pick me up?

I start drinking A LOT of water...cause it makes me have to pee and that irritates me more than being sleepy!! I also put on some old school music and get down! Good luck, I hope you can catch up on some z's this weekend.
If you can, fix a snack for the kids and tell them it's movie time - get them all in the same room, draw the blinds, and make sure you have a comfy spot with a couple pillows/blanket. Then let them watch the movie and doze a little, right there with them. Just a few minutes can help a lot.
Tell the children to grab a pillow and a blanket-we are all taking a nap!
B Complex Vitamin
oh and a whole bunch of sweet Tea - afternoon caffeine
If you are sick and needing to sleep, then have someone come over and help you.
No matter how you pick yourself up, your body is still sick and you will still be tired.
Sleeping... also aids the body, in healing and recovering.
A good sleep, will make the body better and help you recover.
Call someone and have them come over. These are non-typical circumstances. They should understand.
Or, can your Hubby be there to help?
Or a neighbor or something?
You need another adult body there... to help you.
After all, a drowsy/sick person, cannot be real on top of things, watching all those kids, supervising them, feeding them, and what not.
Me, I use STRONG coffee. Strong.
Unfortunately, when my body needs sleep that badly, there's pretty much nothing I can give it besides a catnap. Sometimes a cup of coffee followed by 20 minutes of snoozing works wonders, though. But it sounds like with your full house even 20minutes might be tough. I actually just wanted to post because I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you tried SINGING as a way to stay awake! I think that's just awesome and wanted to let you know.
Yes, take them outside and have them play Simon says, red light stop light..
Who can jump the highest, the slowest walker. You can just sit there with a Giant Hot tea.. in the sun.. The sun will give you energy..
I start cleaning. I know right now that is probably the last thing you want to do, but as soon as I start picking things up and actually start seeing the floor again, it gets me motivated to keep going.
Taking my kid outside to run around, dancing around the house, or if all else fails a small piece of candy for quick sugar rush.
5 hr energy ! pomegranate flavor
the only thing that helps me is some kind of physical activity. When I'm at work and cant take a nap, I take a quick walk around the building, or do some jumping jacks in the bathroom.
When I'm at home, I have the kiddo lay on the couch with me and I take a bit of a nap, knowing if she moves it will wake me up. I'm not sure what to do with a house full.
Should drink some of that Emergency drink, it gives you a punch of vitamin C, and gives you energy.
coffee. or kids in front of a movie.
haha you are asking the right person here I never sleep my son never sleeps I work full time on no sleep many all nighters--drink water......lots of it....the best thing for you and it will give you energy
Eat an Apple. Crazy but true.
I'd just go nuts and get a Peanut Buster Parfait at Diary Queen. The ULTIMATE attitude adjuster no matter what is going on or how you feel.
A soy protein drink and a B complex.
